ok we can all get along i promise.  my only thing is, if you feel "bad" for buying something for such a cheap price, DON'T DO IT!  But you shouldn't feel obligated to call someone and say "what are you, dumb?  ask more for this!".  They put a price they were happy with.  that's it.  It's not your responsibility to manage their finances or tell them how much they should charge for something.  I think Mick sees my point in this.

If you feel bad about it, give them more money.. if you have it.. If you have very little money, that may be the same as another person paying 5X as much....jmo..

But i gotta ask...WHO is gonna clean up the fur, when we are done with this topic.. ???

In my experience those that have listed items under value do so on their own accord. They have placed a value which they deem fair.

On the flip side i have sold items under their current value or what i may have into them.  A deal is just that, first come first served.

I only regret not using the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ, because of the power that His name can have in changing lives.  Even hardened, opinionated old bikers, and cocky, independent, young men that have a few lessons to learn the hard way.

I did offer them more, much more.  They are doing their research and will now receive a fair market value. Whether I end up with the bike or not, is out of my control.  I do have an interest in cafe bikes, bobbers, and choppers, mostly Honda SOHC, but I also dabble in Harley Davidson when the numbers make sense.  I mostly buy Harleys from guys that got in over their head and need the cash to feed their family, or keep a roof over their heads.  Motorcycle customizing can be a ministry.

Your saviour, not mine.  Yes i may be younger than you, occasionally cocky, and most definitely independent.
Lessons?  I have learned a few and surely have a few more to go, but the most important one thus far - believing in myself above all else.

IMHO If you thought the bike was worth more, then buy it and sell it at whatever you believe it to be worth.   ;D

I spoke with her this morning.  I was offered the bike but declined due to the travel distance and time involved with that.  It is 20 hours each way.  Carpy has continued to make offers and wants to use it in a TV documentary about the History of the Cafe. I advised her to ebay the bike and offered to help with that process.  Look for the auction in the next few weeks.

(BTW) it was on Craigs all of about 1/2 hour before the number of calls and emails overwhelmed them and they thought they better look into the value.  For those of you that think I would bother fabricating this tale -  :P

$200 but they took it off at that price after contacting me.  I told them to research it and put it on eBay.  I do not possess the cash it would take to offer them a fair price.

I thought they were inundated with calls and emails and that alerted them to the unrealistically LOW asking price.

Why would they contact you for market advise when you are not familiar with the bike and you live 20 hours (approx 1200 miles) away?

This story keeps getting weirder and weirder every day.

There is getting a deal, and there is knowingly cheating people.  All relative I guess.  I just go with what my prayer life tells me.  I guess that is rare indeed these days.

We get to her house and in the outside bay of her 2 car garage, covered with blankets and boxes was a 1968 Mustang 4 speed BB Shelby with 10,000 miles, it had not been moved or started in 20 years. "It can't be worth much she said we only gave like 5000 for it new"
we just covered it back up and told her to call an auction house or an appraiser, and by the way it's worth at least 10X's that.
You have got to be kidding. I have heard this story since I was a teenager, it usually involves a 1960's Corvette, and the old myth goes with the Vietnam war.
The son was killed and the old lady stil has his car in the garage, covered with blankets, and always low miles etc. They BS'er always says that they either tell the old lady what she's got, or their buddy snags it before they do etc. I cannot believe you actually tried to pull that one on us, have not heard that one since the late 1980's
