BrandonB13 - Welcome! We are laughing because oil is/was discussed a lot and there is no consensus (I think). Absolutely everyone has an opinion, some have very strong opinions! We see an oil thread coming on and we all duck.

Use the search function and you will see.

I use Penzoil 10w40 in my 750 K8 with no troubles at all. I feel that it is important for me to change the oil within the recommended interval and the filter every time. As important at least as what type of oil I use.

Go out and get some 20w-50.  I would not go synthetic or any oil with cleaners or anything like that.  Good ole fashioned oil is what I like and what my bike likes as well. 

Brandon- do you need any advice on tires as well??

I'm surprised, you were all well behaved. I was gonna say baby oil, or vegetable but I can't, in good conscience, do that now. Main thing, look at the back of the container. Where the round emblem with the grade listed. Make sure it doesn't say reduced friction or anything that may sound like that.(can't remember the exact wording). Friction modifiers f up your clutches. I usually use Shell Rotella 15-40 diesel oil. Now my wife prefers astro-glyde, but I think I'm getting off topic. Damn a.d.d.
