Sounds good.

So it looks like we need everyone in the NYC area to post here so we can get together amongst ourselves, and present that to the great region for hand offs etc.

Where are you NYC area???

Let's get this going.

I am in Bethlehem PA. I can head South and help out with the pick up below Philadelphia and ride up into either into New York or New Jersey depending on the route as long as they arrive before June 11th. I have a wedding planned for that date then will be off to Jamaica!  ;D

Congratulations.

If  the route goes from Dover through Pa, do you know a non-highway route from the Birdsboro area towards Bethlehem? ...Larry

I'd think that rt 100 would be a decent way to go.  It certainly isn't an interstate.

Still no NYC area people signing in here????

As far as photo op for this area (and the ride that is tentatively scheduled up toward Woodstock), we were thinking Times Square, GWB, maybe West Point.  I guess if we could find Yasger's Farm :)  Any requests welcome.

Scott, we have some folks in Northern NJ and At least one in Queens. I will have to go through the posts and reach out to them. We can do OK.

Perfect.  Are you handling that privately, or do you want everyone to weigh i here, and we will get organized, and then get all the info to you?  I've lost track of how this is all supposed to be going - to be easier on the coordinators. :)

Sorry.

I think we should speak in here where possible. We need to keep a dialogue going. We need folks in each state to map out their route which you can see happening now.

Makes sense.

Seems like if the oradell, NJ rider wants to grab the hand off, he can bring it to us in NYC.

Hopefully the rider from long island will head in our way, we can see how far they'd like to ride.

Are we still thinking of heading north toward Woodstock?  Hug the river on either/both sides?

Scott, that makes sense. The West side of the Hudson is more picturesque, we could make detour at Bear Mountain and you can ride the famous "Goat Trail" then double back and go up 9W past West Point and into Newburgh for a stop at OCC. All of this does not have to take place in one day. If Andy has a burning desire to visit Woodstock so be it, Andy is a great dude. Let;s just get people talking and a plan will emerge.

That sounds great.  I'm wondering about staying up in the woodstock area (or along the way somewhere), make a nice trip of it.  So no pressure with time from me.

Forum member BigBrownDog got in touch with me about the ride.  He is out in jersey, not far from Oradell actually.  So maybe the two of those guys can coordinate getting in here to us.

I think the key will be seeing if we need to get out to Long Island - which would put us way east of the route above.  If they don't mind coming to the city to join us, we can keep this general plan evolving northward.  No sweat either way.  The whole thing is just a great excuse for a nice ride.

I'm waaay out on Eastern Long Island; 90 miles from Manhattan. Those are not so picturesque roads West of me, they pretty much stink w/ traffic, too. East of me are GREAT backroads that will knock you out. My orig idea was to begin the Long island Tour at the Port Jefferson ferry (Rocky Point )from Bridgeport, Ct as the entrance to Long Island (skip the Western parts), ride East to Montauk and then North to Shelter Island (quant ferries to croos the Shelter Island into Southold) then a really ez ride to the Orient Point ferry crossing into New london, Ct. Mileage from start to finish (Pt Jefferson to Orient Pt via Montauk) is a 100 mile loop.

I just don't take trips thru NYC and major bridge crossings anymore on a 1970 CB750. Kinda hazardous w/ road conditions and truck and heavy traffic.

Hey, maybe someday some of you dudes will try the roads out here, you will be pleasantly suprised how enjoyable on a motorcycle they are.

736,

Although I've never been, I've been told many times about the beauty out your way.  I would love to make it out there this year for sure.

I completely understand you wanting to avoid those roads - took a trip to harbor freight in Hempstead one day.  About 20 miles from here, and it felt like 120 miles, all traffic and mayhem.  Got a couple cool tools though :)

I think Bobby will have to make the executive decision, but I will say that if there are to be pictures of the mascot from along the route, it would be a shame to skip Times Square.  Montauk would pretty special too though.

You're post also pointed out that I am not aware of any CT riders yet.  Maybe I just missed the posts?

How many other riders are out your way?

OK, we can probably work this out. I can understand not going into the City via the bridges, it can be a near death experience. I have watched people do it on Scooters. If there are riders on the Island we can try to work something out, they should participate.

As far as CT I have reached out to AndyCB750 and i am sure he will have no problem raising a posse. I think he may want to visit Woodstock. Now that American Honda is recognizing this ride, it gets more serious. While we have time, like everything else it will be here before we know it.

Really exciting news about Honda.

I've done the bridges a bunch.  And I've also done it on a 1961 Vespa scooter! :)

Maybe I (and anyone else looking to take a niceride) could head out and meet 736, take a ride (and some ferries) into CT and end up back in NYC.  For the times square photo op, and possible ride up to woodstock, maybe we could do that the next day?

Sounds like we would still be making good time, and not holding "it" too long???

That could be a plan. We won;t hold him too long. The New England boys may opt to meet you at the Ferry, so we do the Hudson Valley and then off to the Island.

I'm fine with that too. Might make more sense that way, to hit Woodstock one day, and then back down here again. Then out  to the island for the hand off to New England folks in CT.

Maybe 736 can make some route recommendations for getting to him - since he's pointed out that the roads are awful and full of traffic :)

Times Square would be an awesome photo op, but so would the bull down by Wall St.  Just something that says the ride went through the heart of the greatest city in the world (no need for modesty here  ;D).  I understand people's apprehension to riding within the city, so I'd like to volunteer my services for any and all parts necessary to take the ride through Manhattan.  AND for added suspense, I'll do it on a 350.

Agreed!  I used to work at a studio across the street from the artist that made the bull. He had a huge bull's head coming off the wall to the street - looked like it was plowing it head thru the wall.  Very cool.

There are obviously so many places that would be great to photograph, but we should probably narrow it down.  The other side of the Brooklyn Bridge (with Manhattan in background), the Fed building where Washington gave the first inauguration would be great (but I think it's pedestrian only), view from Battery Park, Grant's Tomb, etc.....

I'm on board for the city run for sure, and for that I have a pretty good SLR. We just need to hope for decent weather, to show off this city :)

Best time to ride in Manhattan is EARLY (dawn-9am) Sunday morning, streets are totally deserted. Any other time its an adventure that borders on life-threatening. Times Square at night especially around dusk is so beautiful and absolutely amazing, if you haven't experianced it since its revitalization in past dozen years, its not to be missed (but its best seen on foot). And keep in mind there's NO FREE PARKING anywhere in Manhattan, and the cops don't take any nonsense when it comes to giving out tickets.

+1 on Times Square at dusk.  It's come a long way since the seedy 70's (and my time putting up movie posters along 42nd st. in the late 80's too) :)

I have ridden pretty extensively in the city, the bridges from Brooklyn are usually the most annoying/dangerous part of the trip (IMHO).  I'm game for getting the photo ops with Weekend Junkie (and anyone else who wants to come, of course).  We can take it slow and easy, play it safe and get the coverage we need.

736, can you suggest a route out to your area, that would help avoid some of the nasty highways heading East?  Where exactly would I/we be headed?  Would the plan still be to meet at Rocky Point?  There seem to be a bunch of parks along the northern water that might make for a nice drive.  Never been there though, and it would certainly add a bunch of time to the 70 mile trip.  I can do a Google map to figure out a route.  Maybe we can get the World's Fair globe in there somehow.

Saw some thing on TV a while back showing Billy Joel's motorcycle shop in Oyster Bay, LI.  Anyone know if that would be some place worth stopping?  maybe a photo op?  Seems like it would be along a more scenic route headed toward 736.

Just a thought....
