Fitting tires for a 1982 CB650 standard
« on: March 21, 2006, 12:09:37 AM »
Alright, I did a little research for tires, and searched on Dennis Kirk and found these...

http://www.denniskirk.com/jsp/product_catalog/Product.jsp?skuId=65682&store=&catId=404&productId=p651436&leafCatId=40402

http://www.denniskirk.com/jsp/product_catalog/Product.jsp?skuId=65691&store=&catId=404&productId=p65695&leafCatId=40402

I noticed that it says, "Tube Type: Tubeless Only" but as I understand it, my spoked rims require tubes.  Hence my confusion...  Is Dennis Kirk wrong on their recommendation?

Thanks

Have only used comstars but let me know what you find out as I will be using a set of wires on current project.

I don't understand why it says tubeless for either rim type either but, unless I'm
mistaken, why can't you run a tube on a spoke wheel?  Later on, Bill :) ;)

I always believed you could put tubes in but it will only be a matter of time before someone says it will create to much heat and cause global warming.

I was thinking that you could run tubes but, sometimes things change and I didn't know if I
was still up with the times or not. And Terry's probably right about the Global Warming thing.

             I don't know if we've helped Dan-O or not. I hope so. Later on, Bill :) ;)

Sure, you could run tubes in tubeless, but then you won't be able to hold sustained speeds over 180 MPH without your tires overheating.   8)

I read somewhere that running tubes in tubeless tires (which I have on mine) reduces the speed rating by 15%. Since mine are H rated (up to 130 mph) and I rarely go over 70, that didn't seem like much of a sacrifice.
We'll all be someone else's PO some day.

Those tires have a pretty good look to them, I'm kinda partial to the old Dunlop K70s
(of course the choice of the sizes has dwindled over the years) but, I'm looking for tires also.
Later on, Bill :) ;)

You're right... the old bucket of (loose) bolts is never gonna go over 80 MPH, so I shouldn't have a problem.  Why in the world it says "tubeless only" I can't imagine.

I would hate to go into a long drawn out global warming debate, but I did enjoy a good laugh at Terry's comment  ;D

I'm running those tires on 2 CB750F's now with OEM wire spoked wheels. Did the first about 3 years back and another last year. No problems. They ride well and handle well. Rear tire seems to wear a bit fast however.
I'm sure that the manufacturer says somewhere that it is OK to run these tires with tubes. I remember that there is a note imprinted into the sidewall.
As I said we have original Honda wheels with tubes. Don't forget to use rim strips.
