Lol awesome!!

I picked up the forks from Zdeno cycle salvage in Kitchener Ontario for 450$. But all they had left for them were the two legs ans bottom triple clamp/steer tube.

So i'm having to shop around for the rest of the parts. Luckly i found a guy here that has almost everything else i need. I'll be seeing him on Sunday.

I can't wait to shoot another video! I have a close friend that owns a production company, all the gear / camera car / cameras the film gods can shake their fingers at.. And he's offered to shoot the next vid. I have already picked the sound track and drew the shot list.. Hahaha.. Though, its not Black Keys..... I'm sure you will like it even more... But you'll have to wait to find out.. Lol

My plan is a disc/fork swap too.  I also have a 78' 550.  I was lucky to find the entire front end off a 2005 cbr600rr on Kijiji.  By my measurements thus far it should be a perfect fit at the steering stem area even the 550 ignition key switch should fit where the cbr ignition key switch is on the top triple AND still have the steering lock work.  Since you've already fitted yours, I was wondering a few things...

Did the steering stop on the bottom of the cbr triple work with the stop on the 550 frame?
Will you be runnig a mechanical speedo drive?  i was thinking of getting some cbr1100 discs (more offset) in hopes of fitting a mechanical speedo drive in there...
Do you think you could make me disc/hub/axle adapter plates as well?  I live in the K/W area

Hmmmm? I was under the impression that the mechanical speedo won't work? And the only fix is to run a magnetic pick up speedo?

I personally won't be making the adapter plates. I'll be giving the measurments to the machinist and he can spin them out faster and better than I.

As for the stops on the bottom triple.. I believe they still meet up. But let me double check that and confirm.

There are people on this forum that have said that a mechanical speedo from a Kawa ZRX will work.  As long as it has a 25mm axle and a 2240/60 speedo ratio... but i have yet to see someone actually put that theory to practice.  Even though this fork swap is a big change.. i'd like to keep some semblance of the original look.

Do you have contact info of that machinist you're using? Are they in the GTA?

Thanks man!!
I can't remeber the exact measurement. But it was more or less and inch forward on the stock shock mounts. And removed/relocated/refabricated the new mounts and suport tubes.

Hello again

 A little extra question :-)

I bought the bearings, etc. to GSXR convertion, but have now read your
CBR fork steer tube fitted directly into the CD 550 frame.

There was no adjustment to mount Into the tube frame, with bearings etc?

 Many thanks for your help.

Hey Martin,
All the did so far. Is take the bearings, races, head set nuts and lock rings from the cb550 forks and put it all on the Cbr600rr forks. So far, i see no issue. I did a shake test looking for flex or wiggle.. So far, all is good. I know I can get a bearing kit from allsballsracing.com but at this point. I don't think i need to.

Been there done that knob gobbler.... Hahahaha. Just dumb how this site you have to reduce the size/res for it to post. Where on other sites i have been able to up load full size/high res right from the camera. No problem. And some times this site would just crash on me while trying to post photos.
But oh well.. It seems to work for me ok now..

Today I trimmed and cleaned up the new seat.
It looks pretty go so far. I didn't like how the seat changed the curve of the seat pan in drying. So today I re-shaped the seat pan part to flow with the frame rails. Looks better.

Maybe tomorrow after I tackle a few things on the "Honey DOO list", I'll start sanding and give the seat a layer of bondo and what not.. we'll see..

also tomorrow, I am meeting up with a fellow, buying some fork parts from him.. 2006-cbr600rr brakes, discs, lines, axle, upper triple clamp. So that should get the front end on a near-home-stretch..

That's going to show off the frame nicely when done.   A subtle mod but visually it's gonna make a big difference.   Are you going to try and fit a wider spoked wheel to the front now?

Thank you.

I actually flip flop a lot on that decision.. I'd like to keep the 19" rim. But not sure how wide a front 19" tire comes in. Need to look into that. I'm not sold on going with a small size wheel.. The look dosen't appeal to me as much.

Thanks for checking.  I look forward to the updates.
Are you going to run a fender or rock guards to protect those fork tubes?
