First car I bought, 1958 Olds.
First car I wrecked, too. It took a week for me to change it from a nice car to a literal beater. Still ran reliably and pretty fast, too, as long a turning, and stopping wasn't quickly needed. It was a very tough car, and I wasn't particularly nice to it. I actually bought another 58 with no engine and trans to transplant the engine from this into it.
But, then I happened to find the 55 Chev. 327, 4 barrel carb with a 3 speed, Metallic green paint and reupholstered black interior. It was a really fast car for its day. Kept blowing rear ends after bad wheel hop, though. The nice shaved and bull nosed hood flew off at 70 MPH when the hood latch failed.
Found some 4.56 gears for it. Quick little car. Kept wearing out rear tires. Kinda wish I didn't sell that one.
Had to have a convertible. 61 ford with a 352 big block 2 bl, and a three speed manual. Nice, but just not fast enough.
So, I found the 57 Plymouth with no engine and trans, and then stuffed a 392 hemi with its push button torque flight from the 58 DeSoto (you can see in the background of the first pic).
That one was a real sleeper and surprised more than a few GTO and Chevelle drivers who thought their cars were hot stuff. No problem pegging the speedometer. Small problem steering the thing at that speed, though. OK, if you just wanted to go straight.
Lot's of stories for these cars. Pictures taken in Roselle, Il.
Cheers,
