if spwg is still up for the DC - lewes leg, i'm good for lewes to millville to philly via the scenic route, with overnights in either or both millville and/or philly.

there are weekly vintage bike gatherings in philly on tuesdays, wednesdays and thursdays. if it falls on a different day, we can generate one flash-mob style.

i'll see what kind of interest i can turn up for the philly-nyc leg.

i repeat my suggestion for an overnight in or in reach of lancaster county pa after hancock, md, but if GZ is definitely coming to lewes, just tell me when and i'll abstain from the first TMA leg discussion...

Jon, can you PM spwg, GZ and all other riders in your area.  and see if you two can work something out. Make up a map. An overnight is fine and safer. This is not a timed event, we only need to be with Team New England when we say we will.

I'm in for the NYC/Brooklyn to Woodstock leg.  If it looks like we will have an extra day, I can also make a run out to Billy Joel's shop to get some photos.  Seems like an overnight/day in the city wouldn't be bad.  Might be able to get Joel's shop, Brooklyn bridge, World's Fairgrounds, Times Square etc before having to ride up to Woodstock.

I have emails from Weekend_Junkie(dan) and Doug already about being a part of the NYC area.

I think the Joel stop would be a bit much to pull off in the same day as the Woodstock run. It's out east, all the roads suck - and then we'd have to turn around and get back this way to head up to you.

Agreed the roads do suck and I think it would be too many hours in the saddle under stressful conditions. The "Billy" stop is very enticing. We could break it up into two days. This is a group decision. One day two days. We are getting that route nailed down from MD which is a very positive step. The members are stepping up.

I wouldn't want to ride from Manhattan to Oyster Bay and back same day, either. Thats the problem w/ that end of the Isalnd (its been losing its charm for about 30 years now). Suggest the Mid Atlantic organizers simply name the times and locations to meet and I'll figure it out if it doable.

If the tour is looking for a destination to ride 100 miles Northeast from Woodstock, there's a unique road and mountain top park at summit w/ picnic grounds and cheap rustic indoor lodging ($35/person and up) in Lanesborough, Mass. called Mount Greylock. New pavement all the way to the summit on a winding road that has be experianced.:

Sounds like a good place for breakfast/lunch/dinner

I tried my hand at routing adding in our starting point of Hancock Md and adding Bethel NY as the end. I did not add in the Billy Joel stop. It will need some tweaking as you can see it is kinda roundabout. The route winds through Pa quite a bit. To make it work some of you will have to agree on some meet up spots. As it is now on this map this does not look like a one day ride. That is OK.
This is where the team work comes in agree on meet up points or if you prefer hand off points.

Hey everyone, sine I'm in Lititz, PA, I'm planning to catch up with the ride somewhere in PA.  I like the route from Pittsburgh - have to go on 30 for the history.  Personally I abhor highway riding, so when it comes back into PA, I'm more in favor of the route I saw suggested some time ago that went up 82 and then across to NJ through Bucks County above Trenton or all the way up through the Delaware Water Gap, but that pushes some of the NJ riders really far north to connect up the ride.

Hey Bobby, sorry about that.  I understand I have to reach for this.  I think DC is a wonderful idea, national heritage and all that.  Lifetime memories.  Hell, I spent three days there one Friday.  And the Ferry is fantastic.  Keep climbing the stairs away from the screaming children and daily commuters.  When you get to the top, you can see everything, out of the wind, while you sip a martini, shaken, not stirred.  Best way to travel.

But I have to agree with Glenn, that there's not a section of route 30, the Lincoln Highway, that has ever disappointed me.  The Lincoln Highway is the First Road Across America.  This road connects the nation's most significant battlefield in Gettysburg to the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia.

The ride is four hours, solid, with a stop in the founder of this venue's home town.

Hey, don't forget about Western PA!

Bear with me my mapfu sucks.

Paul, is this still the proposed route from the handoff from OH in Sharon, PA?

I added a loop if whoever is riding wants to do it.  The roads are a lot of fun.  It's the section between C and F.

That route looks good. If time permits, I thought it would great to get some pictures in the burgh, but we'll have to wait and see. Might not be enough time. This is starting to come together, and it won't be long before IT's here!

I'm a bit confused too.  Last I knew, GZ would be handed off in Hancock, MD on Sunday, 5/22 and sleep in DC that night.  Has that changed?  If so, let me know and I'll update the master schedule.  I'm also looking for the rest of the overnight stays and major events.  As stated already, this isn't a race, speed isn't the point.  Having a GREAT time with GREAT people on GREAT bikes IS the goal!!
Can I have a motorcycle when I get old enough?
If you take care of it.
What do you have to do?
Lot’s of things. You’ve been watching me.
Will you show me all of them?
Sure.
Is it hard?
Not if you have the right attitudes. It’s having the right attitudes that’s hard.

I'm confused... is this route the continuation of the Hancock- DC- Lewes leg, or does it replace it?

No it is not a replacement it is a rough route. On each map posted in a reply you will see the Google logo on the lower left. If you click on that logo it will open up a full sized map. You can modify the route, and re post it.

I suggest you begin doing that as time is getting shorter by the day and they are coming East quickly.

We have enough riders to get this done, but people are talking to me and not each other. We have PM and even a chat room. So we have the tools.

PLEASE start talking to each other and planning a route.

But we were boys, and boys will be boys, and so they will. To us, everything was dangerous, but what of that? Had we not been made to live forever?
