It is a CB 750.. how much did you say your 400 weighs?

 Scott, good on you, but I think you got to get it down another 11 or 13 lbs..

You got to be kidding? I wish my F model was that light. At 465lbs removing almost 60 lbs would take at least 2-3 tenths off my ET. I'm jealous now.

Frank, I don't think I can take off much more weight and keep the dual front discs. One disc would be OK for the drag strip, but on the street I want the best brakes possible! I ordered some aluminum yesterday to make new rear-set plates and foot controls, and I can still drill the discs and do a couple of other little things. Maybe someday I can afford to have BigJay lighten my crank!

Since I can't take much more weight off myself, I had to concentrate on the bike. ;D
I'm the fugly bald guy second from the left in the attached pic. (What Sam said about drugs, beer, and wild women. ;) )

Cool choppers
 I am thinking a Ducati floater disc, that is 220 or 230mm, will bolt right on, with spacer... and that a modern dual piston caliper, will chop some weight and be pretty good to 100mph..

 I forgot, if your alternator is chopped ?

I knew you would like the chops, Frank! They are truly works of art. Thinking of building an alloy oil tank; it will be too hot to ride soon. My buddy has a 300 amp Lincoln tig welder that hasn't been used in years. Maybe I can offer to wire it up and plumb the water-cooled torch in exchange for alloy welding? Got an empty early oil tank laying around? Curious about how much weight I might save by fabbing one out of aluminum...

I need to put my bike on a diet. One day i intend to replace that stock heavy Comstar front wheel and duel discs with a light weight wheel and a single disc with Gremica caliper. The rear is a spoke F model wheel with a wider rim i had laced up so i could put a wider tire on the bike. The rear hub with carrier and disc are heavy as heck so i plan to also replace it with a light wheel and brake set up. The 630 dragrace chain will be trashed and replaced with a 530 DRZ chain to drop some reciprocating weight. If i'm lucky i can take off maybe 30-40 lbs all total. It'll still be heavier than your combination.

Damn 460lb?, i thought Samauto was much lighter than my bike.

I am thinking a good 320mm may stop pretty good and save weight.
 Ducati steel centre take-off 320mm, 6 bolt, looks just under 4 lbs.
 Weighed a 2 piston caliper single acting3 lbs or under.
 Weighed an 05 Yamaha radial MC, does not seem a lot lighter than the OEM 750.. strange!

I went with the Yamaha discs because they were free! :) Have yet to chop any weight off the alternator rotor. It is a K7, which is lighter than the stock K1. Any idea what sort of taper is on the crank? It's not a standard like a Morse, is it? That would make it too easy. ;)
Think I'll do some riding before the next diet phase! One major problem is the K7 fork springs are WAY too stiff for this weight!! I haven't done the zip-ty on the fork tube test yet, but I don't think I'm getting much more than 2" of fork travel. :o

Mike,Jim and I tried to weigh it today.Snuck the wife's old spring scale out.Jim lifted the rear,I slipped in scale........Jim PUT it down.....wife don't know her scale no longer accurate...we screwed it up good...that's racing honey! ;) ;D ;D ;D,Bill
I think it weighs less also.I guessed 420.,John 440?,Sam 430?Jim,I forgot. ;D

To weigh a bike with a bathroom scale, I roll the bike onto a 2x12 plank, roll the front wheel off the plank onto the scale, then back the bike onto the plank and have a helper reposition the scale behind the plank, then roll the bike back so the rear wheel is on the scale. Easy peasy, no pissed off gf's or wives, and an accurate weigh-in! :) :)

scottly, congratulations. For a street 750 that is impressive.

I recently weighed a bike on an electronic scale with a platform large enough to roll the whole bike onto. When I returned I tried the front/rear on a bathroom scale and it was forty pounds different. I know it's been said this approach is accurate, not so in my case.

By the way the bathroom job read heavy.....my wife loves that I used it.

 You may be able to use 500 or 550 springs, in the forks.

Your stock rear disc is that 750 front?, should be able to get that down in weight. The Kawi twin KZ drilled discs are thinner, and smaller diameter, can work if you redrill to 6 hole a rework caliper mount.
 Your swingarm looks like round tubing with the 2 alim pce where the axle clamps in? reminds me of Ducati bevel drive twins. Anyway if you make a new caliper bracket with lighter caliper, you should be able to get it to slide along swingarm(both sides), and eliminate the lower caliper bracketand torque arm..

 gotta get that under 400lbs...

Rear disc is from a GPZ 550 front, thinned to the minimum 4.5 mm, on a lathe with a tool-post grinder to clean up the worn surface. Major PITA! With the disc bolted to the hub adapter I machined, weight was 3.6 pounds. Rear caliper is a 2 piston Gremeca, and with the mounting plate, weighs about 3 pounds.
I read somewhere that Colin Seeley designed the rear axle adjusters for Ducati; maybe that's why they look familiar. ;)
A member told of someone that could make custom springs a while back; don't remember who. That might be my best bet on that front...
Talked to my buddy about getting his TIG fired up, and he was all for it!! :) Hmm, with a home-made English Wheel and a TIG  just what could I do???
