Hello From Boston
« on: May 09, 2011, 10:20:19 AM »
Hello All,
My name's Andrew. First off I'd like to say that this forum is my bible. I've been using it and taking notes for many months now to restore and modify my bike. Dunno why it took me so long to get a username. Thanks to everyone for your informative posts.

I bought a 1978 CB750K last year as my first street bike. I've always been a speed freak, but I bought this bike with the intention of becoming a grease monkey too. When I brought it back to Boston it was already having some issues and I was pretty much ignorant as to how to fix them. Basically I realized I was in deep water.
Fortunately I was parked on a popular street one night when I noticed someone walking around my bike, observing it. He turned out to be a CB550 owner and a member of this site. He was leaving town in a month, but in the weeks before he left, he imparted a great deal of mechanical information (and parts) to me and got me started as a true petrol head. He also introduced me to this site which has been an amazing resource.

A little bit about the 1978 CB750K. It has an aftermarket gas tank and four into one exhaust, cafe racer seat, clubman bars, and i'm pretty sure everything else is just about stock. Many of the modifications came with the bike, so I'm not sure where some of the aftermarket parts came from, but damn they look good.

Also I just helped my flat mate buy a 1976 Honda CB550 which is sort of a wreck now, but a good summer project. Bought it for 800 last week. Basically it needs a new rear tire, throttle lines (which I have, but there's a stripped screw in his kill switch housing which is making it impossible to open), and I think we put the front wheel on wrong or something because it's not spinning freely. Anyways, the engine is a fking champ so that's it needs to be on the road. Cosmetically the tank is dented and a lot of it needs to be derusted, but that's all pretty strait forward.

So if the are any sohc heads in Boston, let me know and we'll have to meet up and talk shop. To everyone else, I'll see you on the forums and on the streets.
