Just turned 27. See my list of bikes below. My cb750 is exactly 10 years older than me, which is kinda cool.

But if you other young folk think it's hard finding other young people in the classic bike world, try the classic car world...I'd be willing to bet I'm less than half the average age...and my gut is probably 1/4 of the average size...I don't fit in very well with that group.

I'm 26 and have had my motorcycle license for about a year.  Started out on a 1972 100cc Yamaha last summer (still have it for trails), bumped to a CB350 for licensing (sold it this spring), and have since moved up to my current ride a 1980 CB650 Custom.

As for riders my age, they exist but the bulk of them are in the sport bike crowd (too fast for me) .  Not much for motorcycle clubs either - just the odd harley gang.  So I do a lot of solo riding.

OTOH, my bike always gets looks when I pull into work.  It's amazing how many people are shocked that bikes exist with 4 cylinders.

You are lucky when I started riding No internet no cell phone hell we only had 3 TV stations if you met someone it was on the road or at the gas station. I could not afford the Honda shop so just had to figure out how things worked. I'm sure you will run into some guys your age maybe on this forum.

                        Ken

Good point, the internet age is kind to owners of classic motorcycles.

To think of the OEM/NOS/aftermarket parts I've received a couple days after ordering from the web, I can only imagine how much more of a job it would have been to track those kinds of things down before they were readily available on the internet.

Resources like this website are the ultimate gems though. Appreciate being able to log onto a webpage and benefit from other members who have more experience with these bikes that we could ever hope to gain.

To quote David Thorne:
"Actually, you were asking me to design a logotype which would have taken me a few hours and fifteen years experience. For free."

I'm off on a tangent though.

33 years old, CB750 K5

Started off late in the game, only having minimal experience riding and trying to wrench dirtbikes as a kid.

Picked up my first bike 6 years ago (1980 Suzuki GS 850) and rode it for a couple years until I finally found the bike I've always wanted, my K5. Had a good amount of problems with it which I've been able to fix one by one, each by searching this site. Happy days!

I'm 40 and I ride a 40 year old CB750, when I'm not working on it. I have allways been into cars since I was 17. Now I'm into bikes, they take up way less space.

I'm 25 I have a '79 cb650z, I got my first bike when I was 13, but I have only had my license for a few weeks. I probably should have done that sooner.  I bought the 650 as a project to keep my mind occupied when my mariage broke up early last year. I was originally going to use my '75 monaro for the same purpose, but instead of spending 20k+ on the car I sold the car to my olds and put the money into an old bike.  Much happier to have a bike anyway  ;D

Think I win at youngest so far, I'm 20, got my first bike at 17, a 74 CB360.  At  18 purchased my k3 CB750.  Both were non running, and now both work (mostly) great.  Can't imagine owning any newer bikes personally, they're just not the same these days.

Another 23 year old here, and I have been riding since I was 16. My father was a Harley guy so I got to use his bikes and was given his custom bobber after I got my license. But after a year or so of searching for the right one I bought my cb750 just a couple of months ago, and have been loving it. And I am actually very surprised because my $1500 Honda gets so much more attention then the $20-something thousand custom bobber even does.

Hello all

29 with a 1978 cb400/4  ;D

Been riding for 8 years and have had mostly older bikes, mostly hondas and particuarly cx500s. its very much the same in the uk, you can buy yourself a 90s sportsbike for a couple of hundred but (most) classics are expensive.

I also own an mz etz 250 which for all intents and purposes is 1950s technology, my faviourite bike to date!
recently sold a suzuki gs500, plenty of power for my needs and handled
well but utterly soulless.

In my experience mechanical sympathy among 17 yearolds is largely abscent so its probably just as well older bikes attract a "mature" audience! Many of the interesting 80s and 90s 2strokes met their dimise being redlined while cold.

Allthough relatively modern bikes are cheap to by they are a nightmare to work on, i'm a full time student myself so that means all bike work has to be done by me! Having helped friends with the odd modern ktm or ninja i'd never have one of them! (not only that, ever had to buy a cdi or ecu?) The cb and mz on the other hand are a joy to work on!

The main thing for me though is they have real carracter :)

well I'm 53 and this is my first road bike. it's a 72 350f. i love the bike. i spent  over 40 years racing go-karts, the last class being shifter karts, and it was just getting too expensive. i needed something to work on, soooooo i got a bike.

78 750 K that is now in need of a head gasket :P Slight weeping but not enough to stop riding.

I think your observation about age is normal.  With a few exceptions riding or rebuilding motorcycles is recreational, not generally a persons primary means of transportation.  As people age or settle into a mature lifestyle there is a little more time and probably more expendable income for motorcycles.

I see a lot of young riders but most are sport bike types.  As they mature they move into tourers, cruisers,  dual sport, and a few of us into classics.  I was lucky, I started riding at 14 yrs old (newspaper route on a 57 Cushman Eagle) and have had bikes of some form ever since.

God, not you too? My dad got me started on old Cushman Eagle! Had my first crash on that sucker, age 8! Would I be dating myself if I said that dad stole the knob off my Bat Masterton cane to replace his missing gear knob?
