thorny subject but a question that interests me. im 30 and have had my bike licence for 4 years. apart from my cousin round my way (north west england) every one who rides is quite a bit older than me and i certainly havent seen anyone my age on an old bike. so i was wondering on here are there others my age? just a straw poll really. im trying to get my mates on two wheels but their all big girls blouses!!

You are lucky when I started riding No internet no cell phone hell we only had 3 TV stations if you met someone it was on the road or at the gas station. I could not afford the Honda shop so just had to figure out how things worked. I'm sure you will run into some guys your age maybe on this forum.

I think your observation about age is normal.  With a few exceptions riding or rebuilding motorcycles is recreational, not generally a persons primary means of transportation.  As people age or settle into a mature lifestyle there is a little more time and probably more expendable income for motorcycles.

I see a lot of young riders but most are sport bike types.  As they mature they move into tourers, cruisers,  dual sport, and a few of us into classics.  I was lucky, I started riding at 14 yrs old (newspaper route on a 57 Cushman Eagle) and have had bikes of some form ever since.

Maybe it's something to do with the bike itself being older or younger than you. I am quite a bit older than my 76 550.

My third bike was a 550.  I then made it a sportbike.(cafe racer?)  That's what you had to do if you wanted something like that in the 70's.   I have always had at least one sportbike,  but classic SOHC Honda's are just as much fun to ride.  I am 60 and been riding since I was 18.  A cruiser or touring bike never got my attention  They look cool but not for me.   Besides if I ride a sportbike or an old Honda to work, no one else rides them.  The do stick out from HDs or other cruisers.
Age makes do difference, ride what gives you that RUSH!!!

I'm with ya on the age thing being normal.

I'm 36.  My last owners group, ZRXOA, was mostly guys way older than me.

44 and still going strong!  ;D

Rode dirt bikes a little as a teenager. Mostly the Honda XR75. Dad had a CB750 in the 70s & 80s that I always admired.

I got a CB750 and my mc license only 5 years ago... lots of miles since though.

Dad likes his VMax but always talks about his CB750 and how he wishes he never sold it.  :(

I'm currently riding a 1977 CB550F

My first bike was a XR80 at the age of 12
First bike I rode on the street was my dads 1977 GS750
