the vet gave us some pills for our wire and the old sob liked em. he also likes watermelon, peaches, brocolli, and any kind of alcoholic beverage. Mike's hard lemonade is his current favorite. He is ten and a real treat

Wow, sorry to hear about the losses. My condolences, all.

Our dog is getting up there too. She's a German shepherd / Chow mix. She's gettin' on for 12 years old. Someone abandoned her in our neighborhood way back then. She was starving, had skin issues, and the choker collar on her was so tight, I had to cut it off with bolt cutters. She's been the best dog ever! Sweet, lovable and super-well behaved. Gets along with all three cats, too.

But, she'll eat ANY pill, as long as you pretend it's a treat. Kind of psych her up for it... "here y'go, girl... oh boy, oh boy..." Fake-toss it to her a couple times, and by the time you REALLY toss it to her, she catches/swallows it before she knows what it was.

Works every time.

buddy is wise to me hiding it in hes breakfast chicken wing now he spat it out this morning,hes cautious now of any treats and slinks away,we have another 5 days of these pills,if they wernt so big it would be better?

Cafedog sorry for you loss,

I have two dogs a lab and a lab german shorthaired pointer(he is my avatar here). I lost my male yellow lab two years ago to cancer and my black female was so devistated, we had to get another one. I decided to rescue one from petfinder. I wanted to name my next dog Mossimo and on the second page of lab mixes I found this guy. Glad to see people like you work for a rescue.

My condolences and understanding.

What a sad coincidence. This past Sunday our Lab-Border Collie passed away. Missy was 13 and had been getting weaker with age-related symptoms. But she still was always there to greet, and she never complained or showed aggression. She was forever wanting to catch a Frisbee or bark in excitement. She followed us about everywhere. Her companion, Dixie, is a different breed - a husky, that likes to pull a sleigh in the winter. Dixie is over 11 and has a thyroid condition that requires several different pills daily. Although some would think she looks and acts like a mangy wolf, she's a powder-puff and lets me open her mouth and stuff them down.

Cherish them while you have them with you, and remember.

There's something about a dog going grey around the face that is far more appealing than in humans!! They are so cute and it makes me think of all the good years they have had. Our lab/collie cross looked exactly like Missy there, we still miss her too. Never forget the day we farewelled some friends out the front and went back in to find her (lilly) sitting by the coffee table, 1/2 empty packet of biscuits, and crumbs all around her guilt ridden grey face....you couldn't get cross, we just laughed and gave her another biscuit!

I saw a ute (pickup) today with 2 cattle dogs on the back - clearly father and son, dad was grey around the chops and very proud and demur and son was full of beans next to him - very cute.

My wife and I foster dogs. It's a pretty cool deal. This shelter gets dogs from kill shelters (death row for dogs) and has people like my wife and I take care of them until someone adopts them. They even supply us with dog food and frontline for the foster dogs and our dog. We have a 8-9 year old basset hound (Margaret) who can be a real grump. She doesn't like it when other dogs play. She's a jerk but we love her.

good on you radam,thats a very noble thing you do for animals,buddy is ok but just has to have a further two weeks of pills,,,,so now he dosent trust any food hes given,,so now we pulverise the pill with a similar amount of brown sugar and about 60ml of milk in a syringe and hold him and squirt it down,,so far so good,,what a performance!

A friend took his dog to have it put down, it was loosing control and wouldn't stand up at the beginning of summer, and has tumours all over that hang like nut sacks.

The vet (who is really a sharp , hip lady) said if he still eats , wait.

SHe runs second chance, and adoption service, and has little old dogs running all over her office, and camping out in cabinets.

It was a good call, he perked up, trots around a bit six months later, goes to the shop with us.

Also got a line on some free dogs, a girl I know had a friend die , leaving a rat terrier and a lab. Anyone?

Thanks for the condolances and kind words. It sucks, I've lost my best friend. They'll be other dogs but never another Otis. I was planning on painting the bike his colors,black,tan,and white. Guess unfortunately now its a tribute project....Otis2...?

Cafe, that would be a fine thing to do. I had to put mine down 3 weeks ago. It gets better but it pops up at odd times. It is a cut that always leave a scar.

Thanks man. I'm not sure if I'm gonna make it now. I may have put my bike out of service for a while. I took it to my parents house over the weekend, and on my way back it died.

I was almost home when it started loosing power and smoking bad. It seems like it was blowing oil out of the exhaust too. I'm guessing it's the rings. I hope it's not anything anymore serious than that. Anyway, I don't have a shop or anything so I'm not sure where/how I'm going to pull the engine? I was wondering if getting that frame mod that allows you to pull the top end in the frame would be a good idea. I'm not sure if you're supposed to put that on with the engine in the frame though? It really sucks because I just wrecked my car about 2 weeks ago. I have to give my rental car back tomorrow. I'll be down to riding my bicycle. At least my wife went grocery shopping yesterday while I was getting my bike home. But hey, it could be worse...a woman could chop off your penis while your sleeping then throw it out the window of a moving vehicle.

My wife and I rescue one breed wire hair fox terriers. They have atendency to be hard to handle and are always needing to be bailed out of jail. I would have kept ten of them if my wife would let me. We keep doing this because we got our 10 year old male that way. We also have a wire mix therapy dog that we take to schools and womack army hospital. I would like to et a side car to take my dog on a ride with me. As my wire gets older I know I will be sorry when he is gone.

hes a happy boy,the vet said it might stay as a little lump from scar tissue,it looks all healed under on the pad,he runs around fine and goes crazy,three more days of pills crushed in milk and sugar,everyones dog is special.

you can man handle him when hes asleep and he just makes a whinge noise but dosent flinch.

Hers a photo of our 5 year old Bull Mastiff Tia, the wife found here and brought here home otherwise she was off to the kennels, she's a brilliant guard dog barks at anything or one that comes near the house

update,,buddy had to have his toe amputated after all,its some cist thing and the vet said the easiest thing is to take the whole toe off,,it wasnt getting any better after all the pills and it pussed out the other day,its hard to keep him still for two weeks like the vet said?hes only just wagging his tail again now.

poor buddy - hopefully that will fix the problem! Sheesh, just when you thought he was all good too.
Hope he has a speedy recovery - they're pretty resilient, and always seem to bounce back eh.
