Anyone going to Sturgis?
« on: July 06, 2011, 04:27:08 PM »
My son and I, with a bunch of friends plan to leave on Aug 8.
Were taken the k1 and the k4. The rest of the bikes are newer
HD's. Anyone else?

I probably won't have my cb750 back together by then, but I'll be there with my cruiser.

Maybe. If I can get off work that last weekend then we'll ride in on Tuesday and stay at our usual place in Spearfish. It's not looking good though.

You camping? Reservations at a campground? or do you have other reservations? I've been there about 6 out of the past 10 years so I may be able to provide info. PM any requests since I may not drop into this thread much.

We are camping, but we were hoping to find a spot when we get there.
I wouldn't know were to call for a reservation. If you have a site that's
good I would appreciate some ideas.
Buy good Im a thinken some shade.

I have never camped Sturgis. The wild and crazy campgrounds like the Buffalo Chip are all close to town. With this you get nightly concerts on a hugh outdoor stage and stuff going on non stop it seems. You will find campgrounds 50+ miles away too. Most of the ones close to town are in the open. You REALLY need to do some web surfing to see what the campgrounds are all about then choose the style of campground you'd be interested in. I wouldn't wait or it will get ugly trying to find your ideal camp site! 500,000 bikers + or -. Seriously! I would just start off searching Sturgis Rally campgrounds and follow links. If you want wild and crazy then perhaps the Buffalo Chip.

A buddy of mine stays at the ride-n-rest campground. It sits on hwy. 79 about a mile north of the buffalo chip campgrounds. It's only about 5 miles out of town. They have a beer garden that cooks breakfast in the morning and sirloin steaks in the evening. It's not a real rowdy place, so you can get a good night's sleep.

Here's a link to their website:

Another one that came to mind is the Broken Spoke campground. We stopped there our last trip to check the festivities but didn't camp. Large swimming pool. Vendors. Bars. Same vicinity as the ride-n-rest.
