About $2k. I'm going to have a for sale sign on it at Rockerbox and then on eBay and Craigslist.

When I bought it I had been looking for a wire wheel Goldwing. But the 550 was too clean, to original, and mostly to good a deal to pass up. But I have had a great summer with it, I just finished a 1,400 mile ride around Lake Michigan. Unfortunately I can't afford two bikes at this point, so it's time to move on.

However, I will probably look for another SOHC4 in February or March. This community is too much fun to leave.

Yep. I really like it and in an ideal world I would keep it. But my plan was always just to keep it until after the Rally ride. Originally the May Chicago leg. But since that didn't go well, I decided to wait and do the Michigan leg. Now that that is done it is time to move on.

I can definitely see me adding another SOHC in late winter with an eye on next year's rally though.

Sell?? No, don't think so.  I'm more likely to give it (them) away.  Prolly to my kids or grand kids or even a neighbor's kid.  As long as they show the love for the bike I have.  In case of a tie, then it goes to the one the one who shows the right attitude to wrench on it themselves.
Can I have a motorcycle when I get old enough?
If you take care of it.
What do you have to do?
Lot’s of things. You’ve been watching me.
Will you show me all of them?
Sure.
Is it hard?
Not if you have the right attitudes. It’s having the right attitudes that’s hard.

if someone shoved $2500 cash in my face I would think long and hard about it. I could use the money to fix up the 750 K6 that's been promised to me and buy and fix the S65 the same person is selling. That way I would have a big bike for long trips and a small bike for in-town trips.

But since my motor weeps oil from several gaskets I doubt that will ever happen.

I love my 500 and can't imagine ever selling it.  On the other hand, it has sentimental value.  It was my father in law's bike, bought brand new in '72. My wife, her sisters and her brother would probably shoot me if I tried to sell it.  And my wife's a better shot than I am. :o ;) ;D ;D

About $2000.  While my 650 has been a lot of fun, it doesn't have my heart.  It's been an excellent learning project both for riding skills and mechanical aptitude, but if someone came along with cash in hand, I'd sell it.

Really, the bike I love is still my first bike, the little 1972 100cc Yamaha kept in the back of the garage that I still ride here and there.  It's a delightful little bike and short of giving it to a family member, I don't see myself EVER getting rid of it.

Beyond that, my Dad had a triumph when I was a kid so I plan on eventually getting one of my own.  A lot more sentimental value there.

is that the right year? I thought the YL1 ended about 1968, the 125cc YAS1 came out about 1969, followed by the YAS3 around 1972.

I like to buy old CB750's in terrible condition and restore them back to health. I enjoy the "chase" as much as I do the resto, then I'm more than happy to see them go to good homes. I'll always have one or two in my garage, but I don't have any problem selling them, particularly if it's to finance another resto. I've had well over 20 CB750's since I bought my first new one in 1978, and I've loved them all, but I'm always ready for the next one.

I'm currently restoring a K6 and I'll sell that one to finance the resto of the K1 that I've just bought from Fred (MrBreeze) when it arrives from it's long sea voyage.

Off topic a little, but I don't know if I'd ever sell my Triumph Rocket III, I bought it from my brother with only 20 miles on the odometer and had an adventure running it in at 100+ MPH when riding it back home from the Aussie Outback where he lives, and every time I ride it I want to do it all again. I think I'll keep it for my retirement........  ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

I've been fortunate enough to have owned and restored (and sold) 50 or so early collectable CB750's in past dozen years. The way I look at it, in life the "trip" is just as important as the "destination". Its been a win-win-win-win-win situation; buying a CB750 is always a treat (an indulgence), road trips w/ a buddy usually includes a steak and a beer at some freak-show saloon (good for a laugh),  I get to take the bike apart and then restore it better than the way I found it (very satisfying), then I ride it for a season (ditto), put them in bike shows (won quite a few), then I always sell it at a tidy profit (which pays for the next bike). And the new owner gets a nice CB750 and is happy (my idea of the perfect deal).  Repeat as often as possible. I've definately slowed down, however, for assorted reasons (own an all-original hi-mileage K0 that I ain't selling). I managed to amass a wealth of knowledge about these things, and have some pretty crazy stories. And instead of the ol' lady busting my balls about spending our dwindling money on bikes, I tell her 'its profitable". No way remotely enough to support a family but at least its not at a loss. Beer and gas money,  plus something left over to buy....another CB750.

And its not a good move to sell your pride and joy just because you are broke; you'll just pay bills and soon be broke again and be w/o your CB750 and be even MORE miserable. Been there, done that. Never again.

Damn 736........you're my hero!!!! Can I have your autograph??? :D....Jus' messin' with ya man!! Everything you say is awesome and I want to do the same. Might be starting later in life but hey!!!.........It's a great hobby that is very rewarding, keeps me outa the bar (most of the time!!). Love my old jap bikes and like you.....I won't ever sell my first (K5).

Ha ha, thanks Fred, it's so cold out that I'm spending the few hours that I'm not at work relaxing in my warm leather recliner, but as soon as the sun comes out again, I'll be back into restoration mode!  ;D
