Also wanted to say i'm proud of you for choosing  to ressurect this dinosaur when others your age would prefer to just buy a newer cookie cutter bike. Good luck with the project and we look forward to seeing your vision become a reality.

Ok so she is all the way down to the frame, I'm now prepping the engine for paint. do I need to remove all of the old paint? If so what is the best way to do that? Also I'm going to try and fit a harley FXR oil tank under my cafe seat hump, anybody know where I could get some oil lines long enough, or custom made, and if anybody knows any gel-cell batterys that are small I'm also going to try and fint the battery under the seat, along with the rest of the wiring.

Don't take this as a given but i would not be putting the battery next to a hot oil tank, the battery gets hot enough without any help and i have also see the results of a battery that has blown up.... Any comments.?

I could fabricate a small heat shield to put between them, plus there will be some space between them, I got the idea from this video... 1975 Honda CB750 Cafe Racer "REDRIM"

I just came across your build son, and I want to say that I love the idea of a guy your age doing this.  It sounds from your posts that you already have a good handle on the vernacular, and a pretty good vision on what you want to accomplish with the bike.  What you will learn will be very valuable down the line.  Most likely you will get this motorcycle bug and not loose it.

The school should be commended as well.  I hear a lot about the sad state of schools in our country, but I have found, after doing some reading volunteer work locally, that there are so many good, well intentioned, people trying to educate kids.  They just need to find the right motivation; they have the tools.  But you are blessed with a family that cares and that goes a long way.

Keep it up, post pictures from that iPad, and don't put your eye out on this thing.

There's always that "Bueller....Blueller" guy.  He would have had you capitalize the T in thank you and put a k in maing.   And, probably a period after environment.  They used to say period; now it is dot.      ;D ;D ;D

Just bustin on ya.   ;)

Tanman,

When you get into painting the cases on the engine, you can easily strip the paint with products like Aircraft Stripper and such.  If you have access to a soda blaster, I found that the factory clear coat came off pretty easily.  If you use glass bead in a Blasting Cabinet, make quadruple sure that you flush all the glass beads left over.  If they get into the oil galleys, you will have serious problems.  The glass beads get everywhere.

As always, when painting your engine, it is all about prep, and prep and yes, even more prep!  make sure the cases are totally free of grease and dirt.  I used VHT high temp on my engine.  Painstakingly following the directions, it made a very nice finish.

Anyway, you have a very special build going on here.  We are all looking forward to seeing your progress.

The original paint looks good in the picture.  Are you going to keep it?
