At 66 they know me by name :) Very helpful people.

here is a picture the proprietary spray can design .

I have shot over enamel Primer/self etching primer and it worked like a charm.  On there website it states that it bonds very well with enamel/lacquer . One thing to note though is the weakest link in the chain  will be the enamel .Think of  it  like laying hardwood oak flooring over bamboo.  If at all possible I try to use existing paint as a base to shoot over. This gives a more durable end result .

Wow!  No kidding?  Well, that is quite something then.  In that case I can't think of a reason on the face of this earth that if anyone was going to do a rattle-can job on their bike that they'd use anything else.

totally agree!

@ stinkfinger - It's this easy = find a car you like the paint color of , a modern car works best. Call the business that suits you that is set up to charge the  spraymax paint system cans( I like the website I have posted feel free to shop anywhere you like though )do yourself a favor and call them . If it's busy  then call back . I have never had a problem getting through , usually order around 3pm . They even have requested photos for there new website from me and are very help and friendly . Ask a bunch of stupid questions and they are very patient to explain in a friendly way(be polite and friendly as well .People often complain of not getting helpful friendly service but waltz in a place or phone a business up with no manners or common decency whatsoever).
Its pretyt straight forward and easy-least that was my experience  ;D best wishes in your painting endeavors-

I had a similar experience with him today as well, I got some primer, a can of rallye gelb VW paint, and some satin black for trim parts

can't wait to get it

Good to hear such positive reports from different sources. It's always good to have more than one in my book.

I've got a 76 750F that I'm going to repaint with spraymaxx, does anyone know what to do about the belt line trim on the seat? the factory finish looks like its a piece of tape applied

has anyone painted this?

^Post a photo of what you are describing-

Got an RD350 bike I am restoring and paint came today - :) ...Portuguese Orange! Direct PPG match for a Boeing 747 jet when they photo indexed it of an original tank at a local paint shop here in town.
The kind folks at 66autocolor included this spraymax trigger sprayer attachment free- I like free!
I have used some very crappy versions of these just as a test to see how bad they suck/dont suck with enamel cans back in the day and I can say this one is built very well. It has the Spraymax name on the handle . Past experiences have lead to nasty drips from paint mist building at the top of the rig but this one looks very well engineered . Might give it a a go . Here are some pix-

here is the last one I shot (also a 75 Portuguese RD350- the original is on the right for reference. I did the vinyl as well.

that's just pin stripping - can be had from a bazillion online stores or visit your local sign shop and prolly get enough of what you need free!

you think I can get a good color match?

I'm just afraid as I will only have a short period of time in which to use the spraymax and I'll be bummed if I have to order a new can to spray just that

not sure if I am following you here- Paint the entire pan- then apply pin stripping as desired- If you like later you can always clear over but many many automobile manufacturers of even high end vehicles do not even clear over vinyl graphics.

I'm probably not describing this right, but on the 750F, there is a peice of alloy trim that snaps onto the side of the seat, and the rear cowl, its about 1/2" high, and the center 1/4" is colored to match the bike

I've found this: http://www.customvinylgraphics.com/images/1-4Solid.pdf

in which lemon yellow looks close, but I'm not 100% sure it will match the vw rallye  gelb paint that I bought as a match for the factory Sulfur yellow that I'm trying to emulate

sorry, I'm not trying to hijack the thread, I'm just new at this particular part of restorations

Good job on the RD :)   I always liked that line of Yamahas-from the 125 on up to the 400, nothing like the smell of 2stroke in the morning...Larry

Funny but I've never seen a Boeing 747 in orange. Considering they are made just down the street from me and I see many of them on a daily basis for the past 40 years.

google Boeing Orange my friend-

and thanks Larry I love to smoke/stink it up,it's great! When I do a few laps around the block I can drive back through the smoke I just left behind :)  though I love my Honda's dont get me wrong, this bike would figuratively and literally "smoke " a CB750 any day of the week,it's scary fast and sounds like a maniac with a chainsaw! No where near a civil as a Honda CB ...

Do you think 1 can would be sufficient enough to paint a tank and 2 side covers from a grey primer to a charcoal grey? Using the paint code from a porsche. Metallic Titan Grey

It took 2 cans for my frame but, the cans have a pretty wide spray
pattern and i ended up wasting a lot of paint trying to get around
everything. I think 1 can will do your job but as the shipping is 50%
as much as the paint, I'd spend the extra $22 for an extra(just in case) can.

Ya I think I will get 2 cans just in case. As for shipping to Canada bert96 I will have mine shipped to a place at the boarder and then just go pick it up from there. Will cost me an extra 5 bucks but should be worth it. Im only a 30min drive from the boarder. I have used spraymaxx clear before but never with colour in it, what should prep look like? I will have to sand down to bare metal is some spots to get rid of some surface rust and then have 1 or 2 small dents I will have to fill. How smooth should the primer coat be before applying the colour/clear. Maybe 1000 grit? I was thinking to leave a little bit of texture for the colour coat to grip too.

400-600 tops you needs something for the paint to bond.
