« on: November 16, 2011, 08:53:42 AM »
Bike is a 74 350F tanks is off a 75 400F.  I have all the rubber bits but I just can't seem to figure out how it attaches to the frame

i think the point of attachment for the rubber to the frame has been ground off

i have a 75 tank on my 77 400f and the attachment methods are different i'm pretty sure, otherwise i'd snap a photo for you.  i can make mine work, but i don't think that's the way the 77 tank mounted

Are you saying they are ground off the frame or ground off the tank.  The only blow up I could see of this was off of a CB350 Twin and the tank had a post there and strap that attaches to it.

ground off the frame... the rubber slides over that tab on the back of the tank.

i'll just go take a pic of both my 400 and 350 so you can at least see those.

if anyone has a comparison picture of how the 77 is really supposed to mount up, i'd be very interested.

Bit hard to tell from your pic but it looks like the mount for the tank has been ground off the frame and something else welded on instead. Also the 400f tank is a bit longer than a 350 tank but it still should fit. I'm pretty sure the 400 tank mounts are the same for all years. Post a pic a bit further back from the bike with the tank off it and it'll b easier to tell what the problem is. Jamie

Yeah looking at Hef's pic I'd say you were right Jamie, something has been added to the frame.  I may just drill and tap a small hole then run a bolt through it.

I would add a rubber washer or spacer under that bolt to isolate the tank from vibration as the original did.
