What is the name of this key
« on: December 19, 2011, 03:27:30 AM »
We call it the Bosch key and it was widely used in ignition switches for motorcycles, military trucks and tractors back in the day - like after WWII till seventies With a bit of clever hands it was possible to use a nail instead.

Was it ever used in USA and what is the name for it, please?

Maybe some other continents will pitch in.   Bosch was huge in ignition and switches back in the day - but that's Germany.

Did the pre  war (2) USA cars have keyed ignition?

Can't help with the name, but it seems Vincent Bendix received a patent for keyed ignition/starter in 1910. First use that I could find referenced a 1913 Locomobile.
We'll all be someone else's PO some day.

Tip of the hat, CycleRanger!  No, I don't need one, I was just curious. It was very common back in Czech but never saw one in USA. I gues it would be safe to use here since nobody knows it :)

My 40 chevy had a conventional key.  It looks a little like an RCA jack.
