CB550 F2 - indicators... not working...
« on: April 26, 2012, 02:38:41 am »
hi guys -

just got myself a CB550 F2 (http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=105865.0), which works quite nicely and well, except for the turning indicators...

the front and tail lights work (not the parking light) as well as the brake signal.

i looked at the FAQ but couldn't find some kind of guidance on what to check.

if you could give me some tips on where to start/what to check first, it'd be highly appreciated

grazie, thanks, merci!

 ;)

My theory on diagnosing any problems is "whats the easiest thing to fix?" and I try that first.  Check your fuses (under the side cover on the left) first and make sure its still good.

After that, check your bulbs, although if none of them are working, i find it hard to believe that all 4 are burned out.

If that doesnt fix it, start tracing wires.  Start at the signal and follow the wires, making sure all the connectors are snug and not corroded. There is a wiring diagram on here somewhere that will make it easier for you to follow the wires.

If that still doesnt fix it, check your flasher relay (under the same side cover I think), if thats gone bad, it may not allow any current to your signals, but i could be wrong about that.

If none of these things help, then you are past my limited knowledge.  Hope this helps!

+1 Mighty's on the order of operations.  From their I'd suggest downloading the 550 manual if you haven't already.  I just got my 550 so not sure it's the same as my 750 but if you check the troubleshooting section for flashers in the 750 manual it suggests running a test wire between the female ends where the flasher relay plugs in ( find a parts fiche in manual or someplace like bikebandit which shows a schematic of your bike).  If when you run the test wire the lights light up its your flasher relay if they don't you've got a connectivety issue.  Then it's time to break out the meter and find the source.  So it's bulbs, fuses, relay, and then digging in.  Also if you need fuses and they aren't the easiest to find their isa guy on eBay (isn't their always) who sells combo packs specifically for your model CB.  Hope that helps.

just to confirm:
1) the flasher relay is the one circled in red... right?
2) i have two fuses missing from the support, but i took it'd be fine as they are... spare ones... right?

Those are just spare fuse carriers, they are not connected. Yes that is the flasher unit.
'Then' and 'than' are completely different words and have completely different meanings. Same with 'of' and 'have'. Set and sit. There, their and they're. Draw and drawer. Could care less/couldn't care less. Bought/brought FFS.

The small black rectangle is the clutch safety switch.

brief update: couldn't find exactly the fuses needed in local shops, so have replaced the ones there with 8A, 10A and 15A (instead of 5, 7, 15) and... I have the indicators back!

that's already good news, it means there's no other problem somewhere... and i'll fit the correct ones soon!

thx again for the tips guys

The winker relay is the flasher you have circled, right?

I've just noticed. Why are there holes drilled in your frame?
