Wanted to say hello.......
« on: September 24, 2006, 05:17:16 PM »
Hello all i just wanted to pop in and say hello...

I just got my first bike at the age of 27, and i am starting with a 76 cb550.  It was in very good shape though the carbs were frozen as well as the throttle cables.  I started tearing it down this weekend... I am basically just doing a frame off cleaning and repair...

I will post pics as soon as i get my cable for the camera... I seem to have misplaced it.

I have pics of the teardown, and i hope everyone here will provide me withe help when i need it....

as a member i promise to
 - Search before i ask   ;D
 - Provide any info that i find pertinent to the topic... only if i am informed on my reply

I was a member of a car site were no-one searched so i know how annoying that is...

I look forward to being a part of this site...

OK here is the pic.... ASSuming the post works.

I did not know when i picked up the bike that it had extended forks, and diff handle bars, I guess i was so excited to just be getting one.

It has both side covers and no tears in the seat, as well as the original front tire....

But for the cost i couldnt beat it.... FREE!!!!!

P.S. Ignore the Redskins van... I dont like the skins, I am just doin head gaskets on the van.

OK i have it all aprt, now the process of cleaning, painting, powdercoating , and re-chroming begins....
anyone wanna give me some suggestions.... I was thinking almost stock, with a cut back front fender, flat black tank and side covers, with factory handles.... abd make everythign shiny and clean....

P.S. I will get the seat lock removed as soon as my keys get here....

Squeeze Hard! I put a little side pressure on mine with a large screwdriver and it popped out of the slots in the frame. Then all I had to do was work it up and out of the frame. It might be much easier for you as you have less stuff in the way then I did when I removed mine.

As far as the seat lock goes, I'm not sure how much of a key you really need... If memory serves me correctly I believe that just about anything that resembles a key will work on the seat lock. Hopefully others can chime in on this.

That's true for most of the tank locks, but all the bikes I've had required an ignition key to unlock the seat.

Hey Roaster, our CB's may be related.  Check mine out.  Got it in the same condition as yours.  Since we're related, if you do decide to change out the pipes, want to donate the pipes, being family and all?
Seriously. let me know.  Mine are rotted underneath.

Mine is faded from resting outside can't tell about the true color.  Paint designer must have been on dope when he came up with this combination.  I actually like the Bronzy/brown color of the side covers, but the greenish/ brown tank....no I don't think so.
Thinking about about painting my pieces that crazy candy apple orange that I have seen on many 70's Hondas ;)
Good luck with yours.

Maybe Satin Black with chrome goodies.  Flat black looks to stealthy to me.  You know, like something "Robo Cop" or "Mad Max" would ride with Turret guns mounted to it.
Actually, any color, nicely done could look good. I like shine :)
