I'm a fan of  a little patina. Of course it's all personal taste. I had good luck pulling dents with the hot glue kit. if the glue is good enough it doesn't harm the paint.

 Is there rhyme or reason to which 400F's came with paint matching side covers and which ones were black?


only that the 75s had matching side cover colors, the 76 models had black side covers as did the 77.

 My red 76 has black side covers but the yellow 77 had yellow ones. doesn't matter, the PO lost one, now they will all be black.

Ha yeah, there is a big shallow dent on the right side as you all can see.  Rest of the tank is in good shape.  I guess will have to try to pull it with glue now.  Don/Cal, do you guys have a favorite brand?

 I have a 76 400f with pitted fork tubes, are there any popular fork swaps without getting too big and heavy? Dual discs would be cool too.

IIrc, 550 frontend swaps right on for 35mm tubes and dual disc same as 750
If it works good, it looks good...

   Cool, I'll check it out, thanks. I'm working on the two 400F's I found last year, I'm putting all the original and new parts on the yellow 77 original paint bike and the freshly painted red 76 bike will be the modified bike.

 I found a farm fresh Green 1973 cb350 four, we literally took it out of a truck full of straw. Dark Green, needs sidecovers, an exhaust and a lot of TLC. I'm seeing 400f handlebars and a cut down seat. I get the title at 10AM and will post pics as soon as I can figure out how to get them off my I phone onto here.
 It has the tool kit, warranty book, manual, service record and the original parts list from the crate it came in.

 Is there a source for new sidecovers? The usual sources show nothing. DSS, Honda, etc,

 This new to me barn find 350 spins like there aren't any pistons, I'll check for compression and see what's up. If it's gone south, I might consider a 350F/400F hybrid. Maybe a 400F frame and engine with the 350 tank, forks, headlight, matching color sidecovers but with 400F logos and a 400 header.
 I have a friend jonesing for the 350, what to do, what to do, hmmm.

 I see this with cb400f handlebars, bar end mirrors, early 750 short turn signal stalks and K0 rear signal mounts, a 400f grab bar handle, and a chromed reverse cone muffler on each side after the 4-2 adapters that lost their mufflers.

 This one just got new rims, neck bearings, greased the wheel bearings, spokes, tires, cables, right control, and better forks, rebuilt the caliper, I polished things a bit too and made the wiring stock. Before picture, the muffler wants to be stock too. I had it for sale in the classifieds here, nobody wanted it cheap. I might have spent too much to sell it now.

This is the original 400 project until it got parted out for the yellow bikes partial restoration work. I had bought new parts for it then got the yellow one back. It has everything to go back together but it gets the non original parts like the yellow accell plug wires.

I've had this about 8 weeks now.



So far I've replaced the rear wheel bearings, brake shoes, chain and sprockets, all the ignition components including fitting a Boyer Bransden electronic unit and generally tidied the bike up. I managed to get a 'Universal' carrier to fit too.

It's got a non standard headlamp (which I had to fit as it had a handlebar fairing on when I bought it and the lamp unit wouldn't fit back into the Honda headlamp shell) and a non standard 4 into 4 exhaust.

According to the documentation it should be green.

 The devil wanted me to put the 350F  front end, tank and seat on a 400F with 400 handlebars and some color matched side covers.
 That said, the 350 deserved better, the guy that bought it wants to keep it as original as possible, even as far as using used non rusty spokes from other honda 18" wheels.
 Now I'm looking for 400 fork tubes or a front end to swap. I was told 400's have the shortest forks.

 I ordered some 750 K0 short front signal stalks for the early turn signals on the red 400, the 90/90/18 now looks small on the front of the yellow one. Too much fender gap, I should have bought a 3.50 x 18.

Here is my 350f so far. Have to do a little more work, then she's coming back apart for paint and powdercoat. Going to be all silver. I rebuilt the engine, new everything I could get parts for, just need to finish up the new wiring harness, and am waiting for my digital multispark ignition. One I can take her around the block and am sure I like what I made, I'll get the frame blasted/powdercoated, tank painted, and make her all purdy.

Don, I replaced the spokes on the pink 400 and have a decent set left over.  Sell the set cheap...Larry

My 72' CB350F. Sat for 20 years or so and has 3248 original miles with the title. Lots of rust and lots of seized parts. I have been trying to refurbish/clean everything and leave it original and minimize brand new parts except where necessary. The exhaust was the one exception. After about a month of work I started her up for the first time last week. Still have to sync carbs and do dynamic timing. Sounds awesome though. I will have to get another picture with everything back together, this was the last picture I took before starting up. Wheels are currently off so I can replace the tires and clean up the chain/sprockets. This forum has been an awesome help for this project!

That's how I feel about some of them, only new parts when needed, some bikes are far enough gone it doesn't matter anymore but when you find a nice one it's best to keep it that way. Just my opinion. My sandcast 750 , as original as possible, my K0 750 had a cut frame, wrong engine, I keep it as unoriginal as possible

Yeah I agree. At first I thought everything was going to be ruined and had budgeted a good amount for replacements. After tearing into it, I was able to reuse a lot. I did however rebuild the MC with new internals, new calipers, and new brake lines. Wanted to make sure I had good brakes haha. Tank surprisingly has no dents and just surface rust. Inside was a different story. Just ordered tires so hopefully will be on the road soon!

Thanks I went with the Mac. I love the original 4's but mine were rusted into 2 pieces. Even with the baffles the Mac system sounds pretty aggressive IMO. 2800 is crazy low. Where did you find yours? I don't have much history on mine.

Here is my old girl. a '76, US model. Spent all of last Winter fixing it up. New, it was delivered with high bars, but I changed them over to the low ones that came from the factory. I purchased it as a rough runner, and dumped more than the purchase price on it worth of parts. I did all the labor myself, including the paint work. Hagon shocks and Race Tech springs/emulators round out the package. The engine is stock, with the exception of #38 pilot jets.


New OEM grips
New mirrors
New headlight (the low beam was burnt out, and there was a bad connector under the tank)
New OEM headlight trim ring
New repro headlight bucket
New clutch cable and clutch
New muffler (DSS repro)
New seat (repro)
New paint and decals (base/ 2k clear, and repro decals)
New spokes, front & back, the old ones were beyond polish, and I needed a project where I could pull my hair out, lol
New horn

I put 3000 smile infested miles on it this summer (it reads almost 25k), and the only trouble I've had with it is one rear flat tire (nail), and the occasional fuel overflow on the outboard carb, left side. I have the new OEM needle and seat sitting on the workbench.

I've read so many differing points of view on the sidecover colors and handlebar heights, now maybe  there's a question of passenger pegs, frame or swingarm mounts. The conclusion I come to is in the 37 plus years a lot of bikes were modified to suit the riders of the day. I doubt any passenger pegs were relocated unless a frame swap was done.
