Love Flake...But man do I hate cleaning the booth afterward.  Are you using a dry flake gun or suspending the flake in an intermediate clear?  I have best luck when spraying it mixed with intermediate, if I over reduce and put a ton of flake in it.  That way I am not building up the surface with the stuff that likes to run. Usually the runs happen when people get too much of the slow drying gummy binder on the surface, then the weight of the flake will just pull it.  I have not had as much luck spraying it dry as I do this method.  Especially on frames.   It is going to have some nice bling to it!!!!
Exactly what was needed; expert advice on the best approach!   :)

I was going to spray it in intermediate clear.  Was thinking I'll spray one tack coat of clear without flake over the base, then two coats flake and then 2 coats clear.  Color sand then re clear.  Trying to figure out which gun I'm gonna use.  Biggest tip on my sata is a 1.4.  I'm going to use microflake so it's smaller.  Any recommendations on a gun with a 1.8?

The 1.4 should be fine.  If you use the 1.8, just be aware that it will put on much more material.  Back off the material and dial it down a bit.  I like to use PPGs DBC 500 or Matrix jamming clear.  I do not like the HOK SG100 as it remains a bit gummy.  You can also ad hardener to the intermediate to firm it up a bit.  The trick is to go heavy on the flake in your mix, so you do not have to put so much binder on the surface.  Like I mentioned before, I over reduce it...stand back and spray it on.   I do not attack the surface with any kind of overlapping spray pattern...just hose it till it is covered.   :)

The topography left behind by the flake should be handled after your wetsand and reclear.  I like the let the first round of clear really set up before sanding and reclearing.  It keeps the texture from coming up later after final clear.

Rounded the side on the top of the seat to follow the rounded edges of the tank.

Just came across your build. And all I can say is, I am totally hooked on following this build. I wish I had Welding & Painting skills, like I have seen on the builds I have looked into.

Can't wait to see this come together, sounds Awesome. Thanks for sharing this with us here.  ;)

Quick update, spokes are getting done and should have them in a week-2 weeks.  Getting my hubs powdercoated and then can lace the wheels.

Also got the ractech goodies coming for the forks, kevin is working on the lower triple and race axle for me (ttr400) and framecrafters got my specs sent to racetech for my shocks.

Crank is in que for work at ape, Miker sent my rods off and all machine work is getting done now.

Alot to go but timeline looks good for april to fire the bike (fingers crossed)

That is a beautifully made swing arm. Pie cut square tubing. Clever and strong!

Seat and tank look super and that swing arm is really going to stand out. Anxious to see the frame when you get it painted.

Oh ya.  Coming together nicely!!!!!  Lots of shiny parts to play with.  The swing arm will be sweet.  What is the damage on something like that if you don't mind me asking?

Thank you!  For Framecrafters to build one it's between 750-1000 based on options.  When I was getting pricing for a mc-again or ueda alloy swingarm it was looking to be 1100-1400

With all that you are doing on this build an are going to do, I was already anxious to see the results and now, With all the talk about how you are going to paint the frame, I am even more anxious.  8) ;)

Thank you!  I've always wanted to smooth and base clear a frame.  Better be worth it in the end!  My fingers are still killing me from sanding the frame!

Well had a couple Hondas come in this weekend for some love.  A local swap messed the cl350 up and had it for 2 years!  Also check out this wiring job.  Almost every wire is red. Does help narrow down wiring issues, which wire is it? The red one!

How are you including your images? I can't view them on Chrome or on Internet Explorer.  Curious why that is happening on my end...

EDIT > just copied one of the links... Looks like it is Tapatalk links to images and since I can't view it on my tablet or desktop using any browser I guess it is an issue for me with Tapatalk links being broken for any attachments.  Since I am not running Tapatalk.  That's my theory.

Thanks!

Been slacking on progress here.  Got my metal flake and a sata with a tip for shooting it.  Will do some test panels next week.  Frame is ready for primer surfacer and bodywork is going into primer soon too.  Got my tires, spokes and tubes in.  Just waiting for my hubs to come back from powdercoat.  Also my racetech springs and gold valves will be here soon.
