Haven’t updated in a while. Life, laziness, and moving homes got in the way.

Backtracked on the bike and ended up pulling the engine to fix loose cylinder head studs. Since the engine had to be disassembled for that, I ended up doing my first top end rebuild as well. Learning a lot as I go thanks to YouTube, the forum, and my brother.

Still waiting on a couple parts to come in the mail to finish it up and put it all back together.





I also got my hands on a set of ‘76 carbs. Wish I had a better before pic but they were pretty rough. With some time and lots of elbow grease, I was able to make them pretty again.

I'm spying some Harbor freight In the background. after the holidays i need to make a trip to my local HF.

My first engine rebuild was a success! She fired right up and sounds great!

Just have to go over it and make sure everything is tight before I take it out for a ride. I will update with better pictures once I get a nice day to go for a ride.

Well…here she is, the final product!

Super happy with how it turned out. Got to go out today and take it for a little winter ride.

Nice looking bike, Jcop.  Are you going to install a muffler/can on the end of your exhaust - like the one earlier in your thread?  The reason I ask is that (1) it'll be pretty stinking loud without one; and (2) you might run lean and overheat your motor.

Thanks! Eventually I’ll end up getting another cone muffler similar to the one posted earlier in the thread. As of now, I am just going to hold off until warm weather and riding season.

Do you miss your brushed steel tank and gold badges with brown seat?

Battery is above the swing arm with a box I got made that will mount on the back of the engine.. I do miss the brushed look but had some pretty gnarly dents happen unfortunately from being in the cluttered garage. Fixed them up (posted above) and went with the white which I’m very happy with now. If I ever do another build like this I’m definitely gonna go with the brushed look.

I really like your white tank, I've always wanted to try that. Im about to go for a brushed look on a 550f tank.
