Spent the last few days getting everything bolted up in preparation for first start up. Finally got everything done but it was too late last night to fire it up. Didn’t want to scare the neighbours. Will wait till tomorrow to do that.

Everything is all buttoned up and the time came to kick it into life. Fired up well but couldn’t get it to keep running. Every time applied any throttle it would cut out. Was getting late last night and didn’t want to annoy the neighbours so will recheck Carby settings and give it a proper go in the morning. There was a pretty big smile when it fired up.

Pulled the carbies back off and went through everything and found they had no pilot jets installed!!! Put some back in and and back on the bike and she started 1st pop. Was then having an issue with cylinder 2&3 only firing intermittently. I’m running an ignitech ignition and spent some time learning how that all works. Ended up having to make a custom map as none of the pre installed ones would work. I don’t know why but I ended up with a setting showing 4 coils instead of 2 and this solved the issue straight away. I booked into the local track for a shakedown run. Had 1 small oil leak from the main drive shaft that needed some attention but apart from that everything was working well. The nova gearbox is a thing of beauty. So positive when changing up and down. Bike felt light and neutral in its handling. Spent a couple of sessions gently running in the motor with nothing in any anger. Have booked some dyno time next week to sort out final jetting. Getting ready for 1st race at end of the month. Really pleased with the progress.

One of the problems with a track bike is always transporting to the track. I didn’t have anywhere to park a trailer at home so the decision was made to sell my beloved Holden caprice. It took me a good 12 months to finally let go of her before I settled on a vw caddy. I didn’t want a normal sized van as it has to be my daily driver and I like those creature comforts like heaters and a stereo that can be heard. The other big one is rattles. I get annoyed whenever there is a rattle in a car. I had to bring the caddy home on the test drive to measure up if the bike would actually fit. They aren’t the biggest payload going. With a bit of work I can get everything in and the front wheel just sits nicely between the seats. It was a nice distraction from the bike build carpeting the rear to make it a bit more homely.
I can now get the bike in and out by myself and leave it standing in the wheel cradle whilst tying her down.
