RJ. what was the seller feedback rating, lets start there.

Also evetone is (or should be) aware that there are no requirements re. business/comunication/spelling skills to become a seller on ebay.


I am a bit of a slow shipper on ebay , but spent inordinate ammounts of time packing stuff.. wodden boxes to ship , tanks, heads, transmission, etc.. basically if it get dropped from a metre it should be OK! ...Dont think it gets dropped ...think baggage carousel scenario & worse..

I've never left negative feedback on Ebay. I live in a world where your good name is more valuable than any money anyone would offer for it, and I consider trashing a person's reputation to be the nuclear option and a final resort. I won't use it unless a situation is just untenable.

I have, however, used the Ebay dispute resolution process several times when I did not receive what I bought or when the item was substantially different from the way it was portrayed in the sale. I have always gotten all of my money back, including shipping. In one case I got my money back and then the seller contacted me (finally, for the first time) and offered me the items for much less than I originally bid. I accepted his offer and ended up getting two side covers and a sprocket for the cost of shipping. His reputation was important to him.

Ripoffs are ripoffs, but I think some sellers on Ebay are not malicious, just lazy, and they will make good given a chance.

Any one, not given a chance to make good is going to be ignorant.

IMO 2 weeks is not a long enough time.. a lot can happen and some are of the been 4 days since sent, wont email cuz they will get it in 2 days frame of mind..

I am curious what their feedback was.. if it was 87 or 92 % with comments about poor comunication.. then there is nothing to complain about.. or ships thurday after getting payment sort of deal..

Sounds like a lot of the problem is in shipping time.  If you would have received the part in a few days there would not of been as much of a communication problem cause you had the item.   I have sent frames from Ohio to Colorado (35.00) fairing to Indiana (27.00) transmissions , engines etc. to the east and west coast and that is why I use DHL. When shipped regular ground it seems to average 3 to 5 days max. that has been my experience.  I felt weird at first sending things like this but I have becaome a good friend to the DHL counter. I just bubble Rapped the frame and they put a sticker on and off it went.  The only thing the will not ship overseas And Canada.

Interestingly there is no history of this seller receiving ANY feedback and no history of any sold items! ??

Geno , that is strange.

i have used DHL DANZA to ship a harley project in a crate to Germany.and i think i used them to ship a project tducati to New Zealand.. maybe you have to contact one of their  international carriers.

I think you could ship a frame or other big stuff the Canada by UPS. I have used them to a broker at the border, then drove down and brought it through customs myself.

might also be that you can't take a frame, only wrapped in bubble wrap, to ship internationally... might need a full size motorcycle shipping crate

Only slightly off topic...why does feedback have to be held hostage?  As in "I'll give you the same feedback you give me"?  That sort of intimidation (or attempted) defeats the purpose of feedback; and I suspect a lot of people fall for it.  What's the way around it?

It is all possible,  Just letting you know of my experience. I guess overseas would need a crate.  Just letting everyone know I think DHL is the most cost effective way to go,

DHL sucks asss in Oz, I sold a pair of Laverda Jota bars to a guy in the US two Christmases ago, he asked me to get him a DHL quote, and it was a whopping 190 bucks!

I eventually sent them via Aussie Post EMS, total cost was $39.00 and he had them in 5 days from when I sent them. Cheers, Terry.

not that it matters, but I bought an NOS tank of ebay from johnrtse over the holidays. It was at my house in literally 5 days after I paid him paypal - just in time for christmas...

sometimes during the holidays you get lucky and things go smoothly....

just because someone had the money to paypal doesn't make them a good ebayer... take this thread for instance

wow! I assume that happened to you! I guess I almost always pay pal right after auction ends and some sellers take forever, if at all, to leave feedback, so that's what I was using as a reference. I've never had that happen to me personally.

I guess I can't think of a better way to do it than it is already set up.

plus feedback is OPTIONAL

if a buyer gives you his wifes work adress and they dont accept cuz that name is not there it gets sent back.. like that is the sellers fault?

 It happened to me with a heavy set of ironworker tools, spud wrenches etc! Sent all the way from West coast Canada to an Altlantic US state, then back again..and then resent!!

nope hasn't happened to me yet... actually, i have a hundred percent rating and just got my yellow star a few months ago.   

but, i've heard of that many times.

i agree w/ most comments here about what is "right" concerning the ebay process... you should be able to keep a 100% rating if...

you email the buyer/seller immediately after auction end
package your items very well
ship/pay w/in a day or 2
provide a tracking number immediately after shipping
DONT BE AN ASS IN ANY CORRESPONDENCE.

the one thing that i don't think ebay sellers get is the age old adage... the customer is always right.  if there is a problem, fix it.  if you can't fix it refund the money.

Customer service rule # 1 : Communicate! I work in wholesale parts online and one of my tasks is a daily check on back orders or discontinued parts. Then I call the customer and put them in the picture. Whenever possible I will give them ETA's on their back ordered parts. They might not be happy about waiting an extra couple of weeks but at least they know that the part is ordered and will get there eventually! From a personal viewpoint I hate it when I order something and wait...and wait. It doesn't take much to contact a customer and explain the delay. I see it all the time on forums; "I ordered this from __________ 2 weeks ago and have heard nothing! They don't respond to my E-mails and I can't contact them by phone." If you're going to do business online, communicate!
