im playing with this to sell it and get a cb750 but here she is...  paid 200 barn deal sitting for 13 years.. so i took off the carbs and the floats were froze. still had the gas in them... ........ this expierince makes me hate yamahas... but heres some pics... check out the first one its the before

heres the forks they took a lot of sanding using 400 800 1000 2000 grit and then two stages of rouge on cloth wheels.... i took the pick of the two with my leg to show the difference between the 2000 and the polish of the rouge
i got mine from lowes so the colors that everybody takes about in the polishing threads didnt line up but i used grey and white... i used the same principle on the covers but didnt document it u can see they turned out pretty good if u check the later pics

this tank had a ton of bondo on it i was gonna try to pop out the dent but i got lazy and filled it in with bondo and the decal mounts on the side... thats my bud who helped me out fantastically during the build.... i tried the rustoleum  method and was kinda happy with it but i think i wasted my time thinning it out (50% mineral spirits) im gonna paint another tank this winter and try three coats of straight  spraycan and  and sand it with 800 1000 and 2000..... but my job i smoothed it out with the 800 1000 and 2000 and then got some rubbing compound used a buffer and then some mcguires wax and  the tank and fenders shined up real good this pic of the black was the first coat .... i ended up with 7 coats and will probably put 3 or 4 more on this winter (i sand a little thin on some edges)

i used hammerd gold rustoleum on the frame after scratching it all up and getting rid of the rust i let it cure for a week  i picked up some kenda challenger tires and had them put on at local tire shop for a third of the price of what the local moto shop does it for.... reassembly went smooth  charging system cover didnt polish up very good and i decided to paint it black( rustoleum semigloss black)

any body know how to be sure that im having problems with my starter switch and not a shorted lead?

I don't know about the starter, but man that paint looks good. Nice job. I really like that bike also. Bet its a runner!

Replacing seals does suck, mine need it bad and I have yet to do it for this very reason. I will probably take mine in and have it done. Perhaps Goddfrey will do it, he does not live to far away and I don't think he will charge all that much for it. Anyway Good luck! I hope some one can answer your question..

i was able to get the other fork loose and inside  fork the peice that has the hole in that resricts the oil flow has a hex pattern inside it that the backend of a sparkplug fits in so i purposly cross threaded a bolt and grabbed it with another socket on the end of 2 nine inch extentions... ill try to remember to take a pic before reassembly so yamaha owners dont shoot themselves in the head when doing this...
 by the way Z this bike was the hardest fork seal change i have done... its the 4th job changing the seals ive done and i prob will never own anothe yamaha because of it
