Author Topic: USA or International Photo HELP (gift for a dear lady friend) (Read 10637 times)

I have a friend Karen that has lived a full hard life and has always had dreams of travel...and never had the chance. She is one of those inspiring people that always push you to live your dreams, and to dream big. She would tell me "Life is all about the rockingchair" - meaning to live to the fullest with no regrets..then pass on your stories to others.
We were together the other night and she seemed depressed. She mentioned to me about living "vicariously" through others. She told me that if I ever go to Europe that she wants me to bring somthing that she has given me and "throw it into a fountain, just so a part of me gets there". Then mentioned a couple landmarks. I just need to get her spark going, and give a magical, amazing suprise for her.

THE PLAN
My idea, my wish is to get some pics of various places. Maybe with just a sign that says "Hello Karen Kallio", or "Hello Karen from ______" (place).
I will forward the pics to her as they come, or maybe even get her to come check out the thread.
I am willing to pay for pics to get this going for her. Thanks.....and I hope this works!!

You should mention the land marks, maybe we have members around them that would be willing to deep six a package you could send them and record it for you?
Maybe use your name card idea in it, upload a vid to youtube and give you the link?

I can take some pics once I get to Australia. I also have a couple rocks I picked up on the beach in Kaikoura, New Zealand. I can send you the rocks to give to her if you want. I don't know if that is something she'd be into, but I'll send them if you want.

Or what about if I could send out her picture to some one and have them take a pic of her pic in a foreign location? Kind of like the stolen lawn knome that sent postcards to the owner from around the world.

Sounds like a Plan, let us know something about her interests and maybe we can include that in the picture too, name of town she lives in would be good there may be a town of similar name here in the UK. Most places have Tourist Information booklets I would be happy to send some over to you.

malcolmgb - I see that you are in England, would you be willing to just write a note that says "To Karen Kallio - from England" and hold it up; snap a picture with something regional, England in the backround? Please dont go out of your way, just a simple shot.

She was and forever will be a huge Elvis fan. She used to talk about retiring and getting herself a 56 T-Bird.
She reads alot, pretty sure she asks me if I have read "Papillon" everytime we get together. "Count Of Monte Cristo" is another.

I’m sorry to hear that Karen is feeling down and a bit bummed.
Is she up to travelling?

We don’t live in Europe, but we’d be happy to have her as our guest and show her around Vancouver.
After all, French is the official second language of Canada, and although not as prevalent as in Quebec, I’m sure we can find a bit of France here too.

I was thinking about maybe making her a book of a bunch of photos from around the world. "Hello to Karen! (from around the world)". My sister is in NYC tonight and should be sending over a pic soon.

YEAH! I just asked a friend in Colorado for a pic from the mountains. See if he comes through. I decided that I will be making a hardcover book with the pics for her. She is online but this whole project comes down to the principal. Make an old (sorry Karen) lady cry out of joy and suprise that her name was held up around the world...kind of like being there.....right?

Yes i could just photoshop but that would not be honest.

OK. So what about anyone with an iphone, just write a note saying "Hello Karen..." hold out your arm and take a pic. Out your window, something regional, geographic, interesting. I just got a confused email of what I am trying to get.

Just a pic of a note to Karen with somthing in the backround that might help identify where in the world you are.

Just sent an email to a guy in Africa.

Thank you. Brought a smile to my face. I truly appreciate the effort guys. She is an amazing woman and I know she will be blown away by the project.

Back in 2001 Karen is the one that convinced me to buy my (new) ZRX. She taught me not to be afraid to jump in with both feet. If you have something you want, work for it, figure it out and dont look back. She used to tell me that I was working to pay bills and that "When your an old man sitting in your rocking chair, nobody wants to hear about what you wished to have done in your life".
