I'm with you Frank. Its all I use except in case of MLS gaskets of course. I seldom have leaks. I use grey rtv, rigid. I won't use anything else. I've seen many racers get pushed off the dragstrip by track officials because of oil leaks. I can't afford to drive 7 hours to a race and not be able to get down the track because if my negligence. Up

But hey, to each his own.

I use it too and have done for nearly 30 years on my race engines. Like most things, if it's done right, it's fine.
I'm only old on the outside.

I think Bills point is they actually make sealers for those pucks that is superior to clear silicone bathtub sealer in any quantity....

Eggsackley, I use Honda RTV, yes point was what happens with excess! And I damn sure don't use the old blue sh×t!  Honda's seals and hass no offensive smell also.

I've used hylomar for the pucks on 2 engines with no problems ;)

I'm doing mine soon. Right now I've got almost all of the old paint off the cases so I can paint. The cam is out so after painting....I'm ready to install the pucks. I believe it was Edward Morris that said he used Permatex #2 and had no problems. I planned to remove any excess after leaving it to set up. What about the O-rings at the oil nozzles and the end passages. Should they be left dry or a dab of something to hold them in place? I also picked up a tube of the high temp thread sealer for the tower studs. I will reread Brandon's thread before I dig in.....I've probably read it at least 5 times already!
I just planned on using the #2 instead of the Hylomar sealer unless someone knows of a reason I shouldn't.

I use #2 on the pucks..........nothing on the o-rings or oil-jets.

I've used hylomar for the pucks on 2 engines with no problems ;)
I have used it too since late 80's (got it free at my job) . Before that GOLDEN HERMETITE that was really good, worked fine sealing cases too.

The EZ turn sounds interesting (the gasket one!) but I already have a tube of Permatex 80060 high tack gasket sealant. My plan is to stick it only to the cover side and a light smear of assembly lube to the case side.
I painted my cases yesterday so I'm getting closer to putting things back together. Still have to do some touch up and cover polishing. I don't care anymore about the time consuming task of polishing....it's so worth the effort! Here's a couple of pics.

The EZ Turn seems to be a good thing to have in the garage. Probably useful in many applications.

 I bought a 477" big block chevy that had the blue silicone overhaul kit, the oil pump was even full of it. It can even wreck a big block.
