I've thought & looked into doing something like that scotty. The only place to mount it would be behind the shifter. That would be OK as far as weight distribution (more on the back wheel), but the rules & my passenger would want it covered. To much fab work, and would require long cables (+ & -), plus some other rewiring. This option is a bolt-on, and removes / solves any charging / ignition issues, plus let's me go to an accurate electronic tach. Time isn't on my side, as I would still like to get it on a dyno before the next race mid July.

'edit' Besides I have a weight advantage, adding more weight is like losing HP.

How much does the PM rotor weigh? (also adds to rotating weight, so double whammy.) How much does the stator weigh? I'm a tight bastard; $200 better save me a bunch of weight.

OK, so I'm ready to jump. Two choices - The SPARX unit, or the one from the source that RR supplied the link for. I'm leaning towards the SPARX (found it for $369US) mainly because it's more compack / sealed / and adds less rotational weight. Only issue seems to be if it has timing marks. The kit from 650central does, but its priced @ $510US.

Brian, i would send Hugh an email and see what he suggests, considering his alternators are built for the street, he could make something more suitable for your chair... He offered to make a better charging system for my bike so it had lots more output so i would imagine making something to suit your chair would be easier.... Just a thought...

Time isn't on my side RR, and the SPARX system has a much lighter PM rotor (faster spin up), than the current offering from Hugh. As well the windings are encased, which will improve durability in a racing application. Got an email reply to my inquiry - they have a 3 phase kit in stock, so that's the way I'll go. Going with the Weber has definitely been an expensive decision.

However, I'm convinced it is making more useable power than the VM's.

The dustbin is fitted, just waiting for the chair fairing to be repaired, and all the bodywork will be completed (again

). While I'm waiting for the alternator to arrive, I'll work on getting the shifter sorted. Also need to re-bleed the brakes.

Here you go RR......still some decals & number to be fitted. Also added the 2nd colour & pin stripe to the wheel fairing. The chair fairing is being redone in the dark blue with pin stripe.

Slowly ticking things off the list for the next race. Got the repaired chair fairing back from Ron, my 'glas' & painter guy. Fitted a new bubble, and added ducting for the cooler. Had planned on the ducting before, but ran out of time before the 1st race.

Still have to install the new alternator & reg/rec (when they arrive), and wire up the electronic tach I got from bwaller. Looks like I can fit it into the XS tach housing, so it will have lots of rubber for vibration isolation.

Still plan to carry lots of speed through the corners (drifting is fun

). However, I've got real brakes now, even the bias adjuster works properly. There will also be a lot more caution when passing.

Nothing on wiring. Check with funjimmy, he's using that tach and has mentioned wiring, I just don't recall.
