Farthest You've Pushed Your Bike?
« on: April 11, 2012, 05:59:55 PM »
The first season I got the 550F, it broke down on my way to work. After work I decided to start pushing. Just figured out that it was 3.67 miles until I took a rest and it started with vigorous kicking. I'm pretty sure the battery was dead/bad. It was the last time I rode it that season and the next I decided to take it all apart.

What's the farthest you've pushed yours?

This is a funny thread!

I was trying to run the gas out of a bike last year late one night before leaving our home for an extended period of time, by running around a 6 or 7 km route next to the house. Of course not only did the bike run out of gas in the farthest darkest part of my route, but it started thundering and lightening all around me and pouring at the same time. I probably pushed the effing thing a couple of km uphill, and when I finally got home completely sopped, my wife was hysterical not knowing where I was or why it took me so long to get back. All's well that ends well though.

Been lucky.  In 33 years....just in and out of the garage and around the yard. :)

Back in Prague I pushed my little CZ from Sporilov to Vinohrady. It was from hill to hill, I was able to coast but it was still 10km or so.

Not judging how much gas on a few occasions has had me walking the bike. Max distance? Probably 3 or 4 miles.

I guess it was only a mile and a half, but it was uphill and I was wearing cowboy boots.  The best part is that I actually pushed it to a gas station first before concluding (without filling it up) that it wasn't out of gas.

It was out of gas.

Ran out of gas on the French autoroute (found out later you can get fined for this) coming back from my g/fs house in Alsace and had to push my wine and wine-glass laden bike (CB750K4 in avatar) 2 miles to the next gas station. Yeah that was tough  ;)

Had engine problems with the CB125 one night on the way home from my girlfriend's house.  Stalled on me 10 times and had to wait about 10 minutes before it would start again.  The last mile and a half I said screw it and pushed it home.  That's when I wished that I had left the original handlebars on!

I pushed my CB750 about a mile on a slight uphill in 85 degrees (Hawaii) after breaking a throttle cable. BUT, then I coasted a 1/2 mile right into a gas station, walked across the park and jumped into the ocean to cool down before my friend showed up with truck and beer.  No complaints here.
I thought this thread was going to ask how fast you've gone on your bike!!!  My speed junkie days are over (for the most part) so I can compete on top speed - but always curious how fast others have gone on a stock CB750.

Well, now this is a thread I have not seen here before. And yes, I have pushed a bike with a funny story. Here is the deal...I bought this titled KO from a guy in town for $450 with 19,000 miles on it. I only had $200 cash, but I wanted to get it out of there before he changed his mind. Since he was a friend of a friend he let me take it without paying him in full. So I pushed it over 4 miles to my mother-in-laws garage on a warm and humid July day in 2007. My wife was not happy as she was afraid I would have a heart attack. But I was only 55 then with no health issues so I was fine. Even had some guys ask to help me out as they thought I ran out of gas. In fact, that was the first time I rode it too. I had to push it up over the expressway bridge which had a traffic light at the downhill slope. So I sat on top of the overpass sidewalk and timed the traffic light so I could coast down through the light.  ;D That was my first ride on my KO.  8)  My son took a pic of me as I got to the house all sweaty and hot. I was so happy to land the KO I never did get tired of pushing it that day.  Ah...the memories!!! Here is a quick shot of it that day...

About three miles after a short circuit cut off all power. A 550 gets very heavy very quickly.

nearly 7 miles, if you know philadelphia.. i pushed the bike from the stadiums down south back to my place in in kenzington in the north east.
I was a bit foolish and didnt check the temperature before I left... it was snowing and it dropped below freezing.. a thin layer of ice formed on the road and I had absolutely no traction. I wasnt going to leave my bike down there and since I no longer was going to make it to where I had left to go I decided why not have a nice long walk in the snow... took me about 3 hours or so, and was actually a really relaxing afternoon/evening.

Haha, no.  Opposite problem.  It was summer in Texas.

Man, people were nice though.  Like 5 people offered to help me push.  Nice folks in Wisconsin and Texas, I guess.

About a mile to a gas station ... ran out of gas on the way to work ... actually ran while pushing.  I forgot that I put the fuel valve on reserve the day before  ::)  It was actually nice to determine that I ran out of gas ... at first I thought it was something more serious.  The only damage .. my pride .. as my neighbours honked as they passed me.

3-4 miles. Pushed it most of the way home, walked a mile uphill to the house, got sister, wood for a ramp, my pickup and work van (to carry the wood). Had to push bike up the hill a little bit to get a running start into the pickup twice (I was exhausted at this point) strapped it down and got it home.

The breakdown was the main fuse was bad. Never found a reason for it blowing, the replacement fuse is still in there. Should have put the spare in on the side of the road.

After the worst day I've ever had, my clutch cable broke. I'm more than happy to make do without a cable if it's not rush hour and I'm stuck in stop and go traffic. It was easier to push it 2 1/2 miles to a shop. In the end, I met some nice people, found a shop I'd never been to and was greeted with my wife and 2 awesome kids picking me up. Not all that bad after all.
