Sean, it's a Lockhart cooler and I did have to relieve a little of the frame on the sides of the cooler for the damper to clear.

Thanks Brent :) I didn't really think about cooler clearance until I read Mriecks post earlier in this thread. I know it's gonna be close when I get things together, just want to make a good decision on what type of cooler to use.
Give me..a frame to build a bike on, and my imagination will build upon that frame

Received my dampener today in the mail.
Seems to be of good quality, and will look badass.

I see where I can mount it to the lower triple-tree, but how about to the bike itself ?
Does someone make some sorta clamp that I can buy, as I really don't feel like welding
on a tab as STLROCKER did..I could always make something to work, just wondering if their is
anything out their that others have used...

Anyone ?

Not yet , as I was too busy riding and enjoying a bueatiful fall day in chicagoland ;D
Tomorrow it is susposed to rain, so I am gonna attempt to rig something up and see where it goes.
I will prob. just bolt a bracket to the frame, and have a hole for the one side of the dampner, and use the
threaded whole allready in the lower triple-tree for the other side.

Sounds easy enough right ? ::)

Hi ProTeal,

Not sure if it will help you but I have copied a set up used by Paul Dunstall (according to pictures I have in one of his old catalogues). I copied it using a Sebac steering damper allmost identical to the original and then made a bracket by using a modified pipe clamp from an autostore (the sort that are used as exhaust clamps on cars). You may think all this sounds a bit flimsy but I can assure you that it works very well and is great on my CB750 Dunstall. I will take photos and post them up on Monday if interested? I can also scan the Dunstall brochure to show exactly what I have done with the set up.

Hope this might help. Can't post pics today as I have left the camera/pc connection lead at work...

The more pics I have to go off of the better. So please scan/send whatever you can and post/email them to me.
I got caught up in the oil change issue today, so I didnt get around to the dampner, though it is next on my list.
Thanks in advance for the pics , and the help !!! ;D

Here are the pictures of the Dunstall damper set up for the CB750. The catalogue is from 1975. I have also included pictures of my Dunstall replicated set up. The damper is by Sebac. I will post some details on that in a second post. The clamp I mentioned is a pipe clamp. I bought mine from an auto parts store. It is a 32mm pipe clamp. I then modified it as per the pictures to accept one end of the damper rod. The Dunstall body work restricts the turn on the bike as does the fitment of the Dunstall Clip-ons. I therefor fitted some lock stop adjusters on the lower triple tree so as to limit the lock-to-lock movement. This worked well with the steering damper and ensures that the steering damper is not strained at it's mounts when at full travel. I would recommend this across the frame sort of set up but see from the other pictures on this thread that this would not be suitable for bikes with an oil cooler. Never quite got around to getting one of these :) Not really need though in the English climate :D

Here is the Sebac damper. It is non adjustable and has 170mm travel. The ends are not rose joints but instead are rubber mounted. This is a budget damper at £35 GBP. You can get them from Jim at Discovolante Moto http://www.discovolantemoto.co.uk/index.jsp

SUPERBIKERUK --->
Now where would you go to get a clamp that small of a diameter ?
I have to go on a hunt tomorrow - as a concert is taking up my night this evening  ;D

Funny story for ya.
I got home last night after a few cocktails, and decided to "pre-mount" my dampener to get a look at how it will all work/line up. In he drunken/I shouldn't be working on a bike stuper I was in, I managed to get a bolt stuck in the lower triple-tree hole (the one used to mount the dampener >:()
It spins, and as tension behind it, but will not back off/come out OR tighten up >:(!
So before I do anything I need to address that damn bolt..

Don't work on your bike while under the influence, bad things can happen... ::)

I got the clamp from Home Depot in the hardware/bolt/screw isle.
They actually had tons of them, as i guess they are designed for mounting signs to posts ?

Worked for me - painted it all black once on the bike - and it is done... ;D

Well Ladies & Gentelmen I received my dampner today ;D
Picked up a small clamp at Home Depot. It was different than what I saw on this thread, but I made it work.
I had to make a small cross brace behind the frame clamp to give the bolt from the dampner enough room so as to not hit the frame.

This thing works GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I took the bike for a scream around the Island twistys tonight and the bike stays straight in the corners with the bad wobbles and hollows.
What a change. I set it at full and I am very happy with the difference in the ride.

I would recommend this upgrade to anyone who wants to GET RID of the steering wobble in the bumpy corners ;D

Thanks again all.  Never would have tried it without others input and assistance.
GET ONE!

That's what I need, we have nothing but bumpy corners and curves around here.
Also walnuts in the road now, how is it on walnuts :)

Not sure about the walnuts ??? But..........

Been riding now for a couple of days with the new modification.
It's like night and day. I didn't mind throwing the old girl around bumpy corners before so much, BUT NOW I don't have to!

POINT and GO!   It rides through the corners now like it's on a rail. I can hit corners now at 55+mph that I used to slow down to 35mph for.  The bumps are still there, but this little beauty is like getting a new bike.

GET ONE ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D  You will be impressed with the results

I scored an alloy body adjustable "White brothers" damper for my racer project for under 20 bucks last year on Ebay, I haven't mounted it yet, but I've had steering dampers on other bikes, and they're definately worth the money.

If you guys can find a fork brace that'll fit, do that too, and you'll think you're riding a modern bike! Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Hmmnn, I just thought of another product from "Terry's house of Grouse", (as opposed to my previous business name, "Terry's house of #$%*house", which wasn't a winner, probably because I used "House" twice in the same sentence, I guess?) I'll knock one up on the weekend Derek, and post a pic, you have a look and tell me if it's for you! Cheers, Terry. ;D

Their was a dead racoon in the road yesterday that was about as big as my dog, and i ran THRU the damn thing  :o The 21'' front wheel I have acted like a knife and sliced that thing wide open..
Looked something like this - but the one I hat was about 3 times larger...

I am on dried blood and fur detail/cleanup when I get home from work tonight .....

FWIW - partsnmore has new nhk stabilizers for $48.

https://www.partsnmore.com/cat_index.php?model=h2&category=chassis

Ordered , says they have 3 left...
Thanks for the link Petersan... ;D

Just tried to get one. Not a Canadian friendly site. I got spat out at the end of the tranasction with a "Canadians please email us here" ???

I wonder what happens if you try from South Africa?

partsnmore IS a canadian site, i thought. not sure what's up with their ordering process for people on the cold side of the border - but i placed an order with them last week and the process is silly.

also - they seem to want/require people outside the US to e-mail their credit card info to them.  to everyone looking to buy from them, never do this! e-mail is insecure and if anyone happened to be snooping, your credit card info would be wide open to them.  partsnmore should really change their procedures up.
