thanks for the info greg,that is what I want from this bike,there is a local guy here running an 8ins over swingarm on a modern sportbike and I met him on a turn the other day and he was not losing any time!I always try to pull forward and back into parking spaces so I do not have to push myself out,much easier.bill

Hi Bill, there is no way ever, that a bike with such an extended swingarm will handle as well as one with the correct length, its physically impossible, you only have to talk to anyone that knows anything about motorcycle geometry to confirm this. If you aren't going to go looking for corners on a Sunday morning and just want to cruise around and blast on the straights, then fine,  but don't let anyone convince you that a 6/8  inch over arm handles any where near as well as a properly engineered arm at proper length, thats pure fantasy...   I'll add that, this isn't my argument, this is well documented fact, you will never see one that long at a circuit race, for very good reason...

You have "hoon" laws there as well eh..? Do they crush the vehicle after a 3rd confiscation..?

I completely understand the handling aspect of this,my commando had every mod you could do at the time to make it handle and it did with real sticky race rubber that would come off in balls when you used it hard,used to hang out at our local roadrace track and watch the vintage bikes run.I just mentioned the sportbike because it is the only one I have ever seen setup like that,it looks kinda strange.over here you get charged with stunting when you get caught at really high speed or doing doughnuts etc.not trying to talk anyone into doing this,it is something I want to try,60 this year so those days are gone.bill

Sure on a race track at 10/10 a long arm will kill lap times.
But on the street you are not racing a clock.
Yeah the bike will not handle as well, and the rider defiantly needs to understand the change.
But I don't think that the extended arm will make it useless on the street.

I thought I would dig up my thread and post some updates,been working on a bigger engine for awhile now,and finally have it done,install in the spring


ha 900 kit in ko cyls

ko head with some light porting on the inlets,chambers look like hondamans head mods,they come stock like this
jugs on the 78 bottom end,new primary chains,rod and main bearings,seals,hd camchain,rc rods
head on,new seals,exhaust guides,seats recut,hd springs,ape sprocket,cx1 cam to get some practice degreeing cams
a little bling if I want it
and finally my fibre form tank that I will use,going to make the bike convertible from stock tank to this one when I want

thanks guys,a special thanks to Bill Benton from whom that tank came from,it was black when I got it ,tried to save the artwork,and for the most part I did,the small black spot are chips out of the fiberglass,might be forced to repaint,or it can be a relic with some clearcoat.got a couple of hotter cams I can try when I get my head around degreeing them,the cx1 wont bang any pistons if I get it wrong.not a full on perf build and not a lot of fancy internals,hoping for a good street engine.got the needs taken care of,gotta separate them from the wants,just gotta get a chrome dyno cover to complete the look I want.billp
