Vermont Newb

I've been trolling your forum for a couple of weeks now and I gotta say I love it here. So much great Info and inspiration.  I picked up a 78 CB550k in pretty rough shape for $200. It doesn't start, but has good compression and turns over well.  It came with many spare parts from another bike that was stripped by the PO.  It is my first bike since I was 17 and I am getting ready to tear into it. As of now, its probably gonna be a bobber project that will take me through the summer.

I took off the carbs and cleaned them out, poked and prodded all of the ports in there and thought I had it good.  It still wont start, Its got great spark and the timing marks all line up.  It doesn't appear to be getting fuel.  I ordered carb gasket kits that should be here Wednesday and as of now, have the carb bank completely disassembled. (So many parts...scary). Hopefully I can get it back together and have it running by the weekend.

Looking forward to a great learning experience with you guys.

Spokes Welcome.  Their are a couple of us Vermonsters on here.  Where you at in VT?  You didn't happen to buy that bike out of NH did you?  Had my eye on one over their just couldn't get over to pick it up so ended up with a 76 550K, in much worse shape than it sounds like yours is.  Anyway lots of good information on here for these bikes and carb rebuilds.  Good luck and maybe we'll see you out on the road.

Thanks CafeDawg, I did happen to pick this one up in NH, North Woodstock to be exact.  Myself, I live in Concord and can't wait to get it on the road.  I'm trying to decide if I should just get her running and drive it for the summer and then start my project when the weather cools down, or if I should just dive in right now.  I've been in the process of buying a Ninja 250 for the last couple months (title issues, PO divorce)  If that goes through soon, i will be riding that for the summer and dive right into this one.

Yup that's the one I had my eyeballs on.  I just didn't have a way to get it home, no truck anymore.  Looked like a good deal though with the extra wheels etc.  Only downsides were exhaust and pinhole in the gas tank as I remember.  A member on here had an exhaust listed in the Parts for Sale section, I think he was asking $200 plus shipping, don't know if it's still their.  Good luck with the bikes, hope one comes through for ya soon.

So, the strategy is to lie to people you are asking for help?

I think I'll be busy going for a ride.

Good luck!
