What is a simple way to drain forks and refill?
« on: June 23, 2012, 12:39:56 PM »
When I replaced my forks seals and cleaned out the forks the rubber gasket went bad on the nut that goes over the spring. Part right above the top of the triple. Well Home depot 31MM gasket didn't work and I was soaked in Honda Pink fork fluid. I replaced it with an old part and now no more leak. Although when I tried to fill the fork with more fluid it wouldn't take any. Springs are in, poured in and over filled. I know the fork does not have the right amount of fluid. It's low. Am I missing something when filling it up?

I don't totally understand the question. There's a drain bolt k  each side, and you fill them from the top.

Remove the bolt on the bottom. Then push own on front-end o get all oil out. Then measure correct amount of oil to put in.

When you pump the fork without the drain plug, it can squirt SEVERAL feet out to the side. So either be outside and still where it won't matter or have a catch can of some type at the ready with a helper who is aware they may get sprayed.

See I've done that. When I pour in the fluid from top it doesn't seem to take.  Spews all over the top

After you have 'sprayed' the last of the old fluid (I tape a double plastic grocery bag around the lower leg to catch the last oz or so) ....and installed the drain-plug......Remove the spring and fill with no more then recommended for a wet fill.....lightly pump the fork to get air out of the lower tube and leg.....then add the spring and cap.

AHH, see I was thinking to take the spring out.. THanks... Found something really funny now. I am thinking my bike does not have the proper year forks. They are different from all the other forks I have.
