I got 4 kids under the age of 10 and i couldnt imagine what those parents and families are going through.
school campuses need to closed.  on lockdown.  no one in or out unless approved through admin office/metal detector.
its the only way to protect them.

I don't give #$%* whether you are political or not, a gun person or not 10 year olds shouldn't used as targets, my condolences to the poor godamm families, how absolutely bloody sad, something has to be done to stop this type of thing whether it means torturing the villian and the seller over months, sterilizing their families, what ever.

I am heart broken over this tragedy.  Latest count is 20 children I believe.  My prayers go out to the families of all the children, the ones that have lost a child, the children that are hurt, and the ones that are scared emotionally for having to witness such a terrible thing.  Also the teachers and their families.  I pray for all of them.

It would be costly, I know, but I agree, all public school campuses should be locked down.  Only one primary entrance and metal detectors maned by a police officer.  Our local elementary school has a controlled access system where the parents and a designated alternate are registered with a photo id on file.  No one is allowed into the hallways until after they have passed thru the offices and had their identity verified.  Even that is not enough.  The school administration says they just do not have the money for maned metal detectors.   This is something that TAX Money should be spent on.  And yes, even if it raises my taxes a few dollars.

I don't know if this violates the intent of the thread, so I'll keep it brief. I think the school just put in a system of limited access. We'll have to see what's said, but if true, it would just go to show that a wacko will always get thru. AS to the extra taxes to pay for it, when the country is already head over heels in debt, and such systems usually come from the Feds, extra taxes won't solve the problem or add the system. Proper priorities will.

School districts in Texas are taxing authorities and we pay local school taxes in addition to any state or federal funds that they get.   There is no reason a local system can't spend money on security when they can build 40 million dollar high school football stadiums.  This is just the way it works here.  Your area could be much different.

its probably different everywhere, granted. To the extent a school receives federal money, they receive borrowed money so its all fun and games. I doubt many systems could provide even the bare minimum from their local school taxes.

And the millions on sports arenas, yeah that happens. Pretty grim IMO.

Guess we'll see more security systems funded by more debt.

I had a horrible day at work only to have it topped off with this news. I'm flooded with too many emotions both sadness and out right rage to find the words that would describe how I feel about it as well.

The way I see it, the problem isn't school security or lack of money. The root problem is the lack of moral basis and freedoms--and that's NOT a political assessment but a historical one.

Hypothetical scenario 1: Guy comes in with gun, teacher carrying a personal firearm takes him down. Problem solved.

Hypothetical scenario 2: Nobody ships their children off to public schools in the first place. Smaller groups of children are far more easily defended than mass groups (and, yes, for less tax dollars as well but that isn't the point I'm trying to make here...)

Now that I've said my peace, I agree, it was a terribly sad and horrific event. May God have mercy on those helpless children's souls.

Here's a thought, CHANGE THE FU CK!NG GUN LAWS.  In just 2 shootings this year in the USA you have beaten out yearly shooting rate for the whole of AUS by a country mile...  Throw into the mix a whole generation lacking respect for just about anything and you have a recipe for far more of these sickening events.....

Not to mention, how does getting rid of guns prevent determined individuals (i.e.: criminals) from getting their hands on them? Let's face it, if someone wants something bad enough, it doesn't matter if it is illegal or not, they will get it.

Today's family has gone to hell. There is NO REAL discipline. Kids have and know they have the upper hand. They are babysitted by cell phone, texting, video games and siblings while their parents are working, drinking and texting or doing their own thing. They do what they want in their 'schools' without reprise. Look how they act and dress. I probably felt oppressed like they do but I knew better and may not have respected authority but by damn I obeyed it.

My sympathy goes out to all involved. I just wish that chicken #$%* cocksucker had not killed himself! Those parents deserve to be able to peel his skin off him while he begs for mercy! Guess that makes me terrible too?

What it does stop is opportunists like most of the kids that commit these heinous crimes from easy access to guns..
Hardened criminals have the contacts, nobodies that have a brain snap don't, but because the guns are so easy available, its easy, too easy. If my kids had to go through metal detectors and have armed guards at their school i would be looking for a new country to live in. And just for some clarification, i am quite competent with a gun, my brothers in law were Australasian trap and skeet champions, so i am not a anti gun loony, big difference being, in my country i don't need a gun to feel either safe or to defend myself.....  I would have loved to see the a-hole in the cinema shooting not long back try to stab all his adult victims, not even close to the same thing...
