On 19 February 1980, Scott, 33 at the time, passed out after a night of heavy drinking in a London club called the Music Machine (currently known as the KOKO). He was left to sleep in a Renault 5 owned by an acquaintance named Alistair Kinnear, at 67 Overhill Road in East Dulwich, South London.[17] The following afternoon, Kinnear found Scott lifeless, and alerted the authorities. Scott was rushed to King's College Hospital in Camberwell, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Pulmonary aspiration of vomit was the cause of Scott's death,[18] and the official cause was listed as "acute alcohol poisoning" and "death by misadventure".[19][20] Scott was cremated and his ashes were interred by his family at Fremantle Cemetery in Fremantle, Western Australia.[21]

Yeah, seen that story in various incarnations over the years, i was talking to a guy here that is the head of the Australian performing rights association after getting my diploma in music, he was a good friend of Harry Vanda who was ACDC's producer and was the lead guitarist in the Easy beats with Angus Young's brother George, he told me that the "real" story was that Bon had been on a speed and alcohol binge and went out to a car in London i think it was, to have a sleep, the over night temps were freezing and they found Bon the next day unresponsive and ice cold on the back seat.....  I was under the impression that after reading similar stories to yours that that was what happened but after speaking to {can't remember his name} the guy from APRA i believe him , Bon probably did throw up but from what i was told , it didn't cause his death.... ;) ;)

Your mate's full of schidt Mick, the news story at the time (and I know you're a bit youger than me, so may not have been watching the news in 1980) was that he choked on his own vomit.

I love all these "experts" who knew someone, who knew someone else, blah blah blah, who tell us quietly on the side, the "real story" 30 years after the fact............  ::)
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

He wasn't my mate Terry, he was the head of APRA.    Just telling the story i was told by someone  supposedly in the know....       he may have been wrong, but i had absolutely no reason not to believe him. We had to do live performances of 70's Australian music as part of our exam on the performance part of the diploma, he was there as a kind of "judge", {he was a friend of the teacher in charge of the diploma}, we chose {my band} to do an ACDC show and played songs like Back in black, whole lot of Rosie and Jailbreak, thats where the conversation stemmed from, i said it was a shame Bon had "choked on his own spew" and he told his story..... I'm well aware of the news reports of the day and the Massive turn out for his funeral,  I was 17 in 1980 and playing in a band doing ACDC and Angels covers..   ;D

Well after a bit of reading it seems that i am not the only one that was told that story....

Quote
On February 19, 1980, Bon Scott passed out after a night of heavy drinking in a London club called MusicMachine (better known as Camden Palace and currently the KOKO), and was left to sleep in a car owned by an acquaintance named Alistair Kinnear, at 67 Overhill Road in East Dulwich, South London[13]. The following afternoon, after Kinnear had found Scott lifeless and alerted authorities, Scott was rushed to King's College Hospital in Camberwell, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Although common folklore claims that pulmonary aspiration of vomit or drugs were the cause of Scott's death, the official cause was listed as "acute alcohol poisoning" and "death by misadventure."

Inconsistencies in the official accounts of Scott's death have been cited in conspiracy theories, which suggest that Scott died of a heroin overdose, or was killed by exhaust fumes redirected into the car, or that Kinnear did not exist.[14] Additionally, Scott was asthmatic, and the temperature was below freezing on the morning of his death

Another..

Quote
BON SCOTT DID NOT DROWN IN HIS OWN VOMIT!!! That is a terrible assumption that everyone makes.

Bon Scott did pass out from acute alcohol poisoning that night. It was a very cold night, when the put him in that car. The official police report stated that Bon died for resperatory failure due to his life-long acute asthma, the alcohol, and the cold.

Another

On February 19, 1980, Bon Scott passed out in a car after a night of heavy drinking. He was left there for the night, and he was dead when an acquaintance checked on him in the morning. Conspiracy theories about Scott’s death abound, but the official cause of death was listed as “acute alcohol poisoning” and “death by misadventure.”

Quote
Death Summary: At the age of 33, Scott passed out in the back of a car after a night of drinking in London. The next day, the owner of the car (who had let him sleep there) found his body. He was pronounced dead on arrival after being rushed to King's College Hospital.

Some believe he drowned in his own vomit, but the official ruling was "acute alcohol poisoning".

From Bonscott.com.au

Quote
1980 - 19th February. They had just started to reap the benefits of their hard work when tragedy struck in London UK. Bon was found dead in a car after a night out.His official Cause of Death is Acute Alcoholic Poisoning - Death by Misadventure. Bon was 33 years old when he passed away.

I also read one where it said he was found dead and after the autopsy, they found a bag of cocaine in his stomach.... I'd never heard that one before....

So there may well be some truth in the story i quoted Terry.... ;)

It would seem there were inconsistent stories. Maybe is isn't dead. Maybe he fled the publicity and is playing at the Holiday Inn in Hoboken NJ. Elvis was a regular there.

Sorry Mick, but I saw the London Coroner on the news explain that as one of the symptoms of "Acute Alcohol Poisoning" (like most poisoning) is vomiting, so saying that he died of alcohol poisoning is still correct. Bon started to vomit, and because of the angle of his body, he then aspirated (drew into his own lungs) his vomit, like a swimmer who drowns by aspirating water.

I will continue to believe the opinion of the man who conducted Bon Scott's autopsy long after I have forgotten the opinion of someone from some music organisation in Brisbane, or a bunch of wacko conspiracy theorists. Cheers, Terry. ;D
