Wet sump? Who wants a new leak stopper seal?

I've looked world-wide for one. None left near as I can tell. Anyway, I'm talking with a machinist who makes molds and a company that fills them with Nitrile to see what it would cost to have some of these made. If there is enough interest, I can have a short run done and we can get new seals. The final price per seal will, of course, depend on how many are made. So I'm looking for interest here. At a wild guess, I'd say these things will cost about $50 each if I get 30 made. That's a wild guess. I'll have more information in a few days. I'm looking for a preliminary head count to see if it's even worth pursuing. Please only say you're in if you're actually in. So if you're interested, would you tell me how many you'd be interested in buying.

When I first spotted this I contacted the guy I got my NOS stopper from to see if he was sitting on any more. I received a reply last night and unfortunately it is no. Is this project going to run $1500 to get started or can the output numbers be bumped up and still cost $1500. My guess is that most guys won't spend $50 on a single little rubber item. If someone were to invest $1500 for say 100 of these then I'd think people would  more than likely be willing to spend $25 on one when they do their engine rebuild but that someone would have to sit on those 100 for some time before recouping their investment. Perhaps a supplier would be willing to make that investment and hold the parts for sale along with their other inventory to broaden their product line. Perhaps a CycleX or a Z1 type of outfit. If you are not interested in profiting from this and are attempting to source new product for all the SOHC4 guys perhaps we could contact Kenny at CycleX or Jeff at Z1 or even Big Jay at APE and get them in touch with your people? I've managed to make Crower rods happen, 1000 kits happen, Corbin 750F seats happen so why not this?! This has a MUCH larger audience.

My personal experience and observation of others experiences is that the stopper gets hung up on debris. Once the debris is cleared and the everything is cleaned the valve works fine.

That's what i did with mine. Upon disassembly, it was obviously stuck wide open. Since clearing and cleaning it has held the same level in the tank for over a month.

I know you said yours was not stuck open, upon removing the pump. And so you blame the stopper seal.  Maybe it was stuck open and the act of removing the pump jostled it closed?

Anyway, while tempting, I'm not in the market as it seems i don't really need it. Maybe others feel the same way?

...go and look for some one who is working in a architect office, may be they have a 3-D printer!
With this new 3-D printers You can print out what ever You want, just saw them on TV in Las Vegas.
First time I saw a 3-D printer was in 2010 but it was fugging expensive, starts around ~30.000€
Today You can score a 3-D printer for ~1500us$!!!

First 3D printer i saw was in Jay Lenos Garage. He used it to build back NLA parts on his collection.

Jerry, I'd be happy to hand this off to Cylex or anyone else who'd be up to fronting it. I'll continue pursuing the price thing. It's somewhat complicated in that a multiple cavity mold costs more but molding one piece at a time costs more because of vulcanizing time and machine tie-up. So I'm looking into the various costs. If you would ask your sources at Cyclex or Z1 or wherever if they'd be interested, I could forward information to them. One unknown in the mfg process is the hardness of the nitrile. The molding guy said he'd be willing to run me off a couple to try so we could see if a different hardness was called for. I know nothing of such things so I'd be guessing. If someone else knows, let's hear it.

MC - I was hoping you were right. I was extremely careful taking it apart and saw no debris. However, the seal itself is in nice condition - just hard - and it seems to me it ought to seal. But it doesn't. I'm probably going to put it back together with the old seal anyway because that's all I've got. If this new seal plan falls through, I might get an aluminum dummy machined and fasten a piece of Viton to the end of it.

No I haven't but I will be very soon. I'm replacing all the rubber in the pump and waiting for the tiny oil seal to come in. It does seem like the old one should seal fairly well doesn't it. We'll see.

Coming soon to a theater near you if you can wait.

Due to a Non-Disclosure Agreement, I am only able to say at this time that this project is already underway. Replacement Leak Stopper Seals will be available to the US in late April or early May for less $20.00 each.

A replacement damper kit for the primary drive will also be available in that timeframe but the price is yet to be determined.

I did a Google translate on the site. I'm using IE. Clicked omn 'page' above right then 'translate with live search'. While the picture and spring look correct the item #2 is NOT the seal. Confusing what they are doing!
