What is the best product, house hold preferably, or method to clean electrical stuff like regulators rectifiers etc.

Thanks ahead of time!

I saw on DCC they used wd-40 to clean the harness.  They dumped a gallon can into a tupperware container and soaked the wires.

For connectors?  Steel wool/Emory cloth, to polish, rubbing alcohol to clean, compressed air to remove any leftover particles, then treat w dielectric grease.
you can go buy electrical contact cleaner for them (deoxit)

For everything else, simple green, brake cleaner

And it will be ok for the OP to send you the bill for new switches when the brake cleaner disolves them??? Even some of the contact cleaners of today will raise hell with the plastics in the handlebar switches from these old bikes. I speak from first hand experienc on that. Best to be very gentle with those old parts.

Wild new concept...
Google search "plastic safe electrical cleaner".

There are lots of chemicals, including brake cleaner and alcohol, that will leach out the plasicizers in certain varieties of plastic and make them brittle, prone to breakage, or dissolve them outright.

Just because it is a clear liquid, does not make it safe to drink, though humans do love to experiment.  ;D

For the wiring harness, put it in a pillow case and throw it in the washer...when the wifes out ;D. Works great.
You know you've achieved perfection in design, not when you have nothing more to add, but when you have nothing left to take away.

Ultrasonic cleaner, then put the components into a pillow case - tie open end - and place into a full laundry dryer under low heat. Stuff comes out of the bag like new. Dont tell my wife. Then after looking over your harness...greeeeez the ever living out of it. wait what components are we talking about? I am referencing the harness.

To remove oxides from contacts, I use glass fibre pencils. For cases, wires, etc. just soap and water :)
