I am accumulating parts to put new rims and spokes on my 550F.  While I wait for bargains to appear, and they will, I need to store the rims.  Whats best Flat or hanging on the wall?  Maybe put them on the wall on three hangers to spread the load?

Whatever works for you,  I would find it hard to believe that the rim will deform based on storage.  Bicycles are hung by a wheel for a long time without any deformation.

hanging them is just fine. did this always before to save space in my workshop. no problems at all.

I think a bigger concern would be rusting, if in a damp environment, lightly coat them with an anti rust agent.

Brooze is right.  Rust is the larger concern.  Give the rim a good spray with WD40 and periodically re-spray.
