Do some homework on that..............its not a '63 :o

The 2,000 miles give-a-way sign is the frame........the rear top-shock-mounts and reflector bracket are correct for '64 and on..............all previous have an arched design on the aluminum casting.  Also. The seat, tank, and numerous other parts are model specific from '59-63.  The narrow whitewalls are nice for a 65-66 then twin narrow strips in '67.  That bike is a good parts-hound of mixed pedigree;) ;)

I see. Glad you posted. Where in the frame am I looking for the arch? I need to get cut in on the years.

So, the 63 is an early and my 65 is a late model.

I was going to buy this for the exhaust alone. Not sure if it will fit. Needed the nice rear wheel also but that should be the same.

Yes. Side cover, center covers and points cover. Needed to clean it up after removing the mess.

That is the silver I ordered from Marble Motors out in Texas. Amazing color and spot on.

I should of ordered two cans because shipping was $13.00 for one. Live and learn. Hoping I don't have to buy more.  ;)

Marble Motors in TX? I've seen their (expensive) badges on other threads but didn't realize they were in Dallas.

Waiting. All parts cleaned.

Four different suppliers so basically can't do anything. When the parts arrive I will be very busy.  ;)

No word on fender or seat.

To busy as of late. Last two days have been super windy.

Will polish up for the River Run however.  8)

Front wheel mock up.

When the parts arrive I will be installing:

New rear pivot seals. Found some at Ohio Cycle.
New brakes. Ohio Cycle.
New cables. Speedometer and brake.
New tire, tube and rim strip. Went with a 3.50-16 due to cost and limited availability of the 3.25-16 tire.

Wanted to use the one on it but due to age decided against it. Fender should be about done as well as seat. Holding off on headlight as I am shopping for stock handlebars. Ordered a headlight with replaceable Halogen bulb. Upgrading the rectifier also.

The only thing I am not happy about is the petcock rebuild kit. I wanted to use the rubber gasket on the bottom of the fuel lever but the holes were way off. Had to use the cork.  :-\

Not sure how long it will last with today's gas.

Did you get the job?

Got two (2) parts boxes today. Start on the front tomorrow. No tires until late in week if not first of next.

Hey tt - hope you're putting some vintage looking tires on this? Some K70's would look good.

The River Run looks like a great event. Been there?

The River Run? In my backyard. Laughlin is 5 miles from me. Spills over the whole area. Great times.

Not WW. To expensive. Found K-70 replica's.

Getting ready to replace the front shoes but having one heck of time removing them. Wondering if the brake cam removes as I don't see a snap ring.

I think there is a brake spring tool but that I do not have.

Any tips on a easy way to remove these brake shoes?

The brakes on the front and rear of the CA77 is similar to the CA95 drum brakes.  The brake arm attaches to splined cam and the shoes are held in place with springs just like the rear drums.  The brake arm is splined and as far as I recall does not have a circlip.
If the cam doesn't allow the shoes to retract they can lock the hub tight but I doubt that is the problem.

The shoes can wear into the lining of the hub causing them to hang up. This can sometimes be overcome with a rubber or dead-blow mallet with a few good smacks.

Other than that I'm not sure what can hang them up.  The center hole of the drum doesn't lock things in place as long as the axle is removed.

Photos would be helpful.

Good point. Betting a margarita that's the issue.

The brakes operate as intended. I'm just wondering if the brake cam can be removed. It does not have a circlip like the rear.

I hate to pound on it without knowing. Parts are hard to come by.

Here is the rear brake. As you can see it's pretty straight forward.

Here is the front brake. I don't have anything to remove the springs. If the brake cam can be removed then I think the shoes will come off. Just a footnote. The front shoes actually don't need replaced. The lining is in good shape but since I have a pair would like to change them out.

Might just run them down to the shop in Needles.

I think it's a smart move to replace those old shoes...the lining can break free from the base and lock up the wheel.  Cheap insurance to replace them.

Those springs are a bear.  If I can't slide the cam and shoes off together, I've used a needle nose pair of vice grips pulling up on the hook, and a screwdriver pressed down on the spring to help leverage the hook out.  It's never a fun job.

I misunderstood the issue, I thought your issue was removing the shoes from the hub, not removing the shoes from the backing plate.

Taking a break from the shoes for now and changed out the rectifier. This is an upgrade not only for the halogen headlight but better overall voltage. In the future the headlight bulb can be changed. The old headlight is a sealed unit, hard to find. A new one is on flea bay for $285.00.  :o The cost of this package was $130.00.  ;)

Thanks guys, might just run down to the shop and have them swapped out.
