Bill if you mean my old bike, I had the first one, don't know if they sold anymore.  It worked great of course that was when I was much younger and could stand to cruse the freeway with out stopping on long trips.

Don, not sure at this point, if I have enough paint I may stay with the all metal look.

I'm a fan of the all metal look. If so, does that mean you'll be fabbing a seat?

Still working on the stock tank getting it ready for paint.  I finally had a 1/3 sheet sander eat one of its bearings, motor ran well, but the plastic bearing came apart after 30 some odd years, gotta love sears. So that gave me an excuse to purchase anew Bosch orbital sander and I just love it to death.  Used it with 180 to take down the ruff spots from stripping, then did a number on it with 220, filled very few small dents, took them down with 220 cleaned and sprayed 1 coat of grey filler primer.  Did it down with 320 and re sprayed the primer again.  Now I will put it up until all parts are ready for paint then do some by hand wet sanding, 400, 600.

Well Bill, still working it out but think it is doable.  Here's the situation, my Manx tank is longer than the stock tank by about 3 inches if that.  Both fit fine on the front end. The back is the trick.  Im leaning toward having my upholstery craftsman attached the seat with snaps to the fibreglass, when I have it done I will have the craftsman make an add on piece that matches. I haven't thought out just year how to mount it easily to the frame or seat, thinking just now what comes to mind is "Velcro" have a flap sewn underneath onto the add on piece which could easily be attached to the mating part underneath the front of the seat?  It wouldn't need to support much, maybe ones balls likely nothing at all. Gas line wise, the Manx tank has two petcocks so will need 3 double sealing quick disconnects, the stock tank only needs one then 1 matching opposite disconnect on the carb line.  Click, click, click, swap, click new tank done.  Oh as far as the mount in the back go's the stock bike uses the stock rubber, which I remove and add a one screw bracket to hold the back end of the Manx.
Didn't do anything today except store the stock tank away.  Worked from 9-3, then had to run the dogs then take the lady of the house shoe shopping and whole foods shopping, but she did buy dinner and a new pair to tennis to where with the ugly shorts she bought me for going out this summer,  Cant wait for that. LOL
Hope your thawing out up there its been in the 70's and 80's during the day the last week or so.  Stay well!

I brought my boat out a couple of days ago and managed to clean off the big pieces from the cover, gunnels down and the trailer.  Next chance I get I'll get the cover off and do the top deck and begin de winterizing the engine.  Then hope I've learned the right thing to get the engine running better.  God forbid I should ever get this thing in the water.

The tank would be unsuitable for this bike but do wish I had that whole bike back again, I rode that thing all over the place back in the day and loved every minute of it.  It was a great cruiser and I was known to be seen spiting sparks from my pegs on many occasions.

Oh yes bill that's an older picture from 01/31/14, go back up the page a bit and you see the big stock tank in primer its ready for paint, the seat is about ready and the other tank needs primer.  I just went to get you some info on the paints I will be using but found some reviews that were not available last year and now Im not so impressed with it?  Good money down the drain.  Well I have it now I just as well might try it. We will see. But now I have to think what I might do if I have to do color?  Always something.

Then I forgot to send this message at 2am this morning, my allergy meds have me all sedated.

Yes, I was going to with a "Killer Chrome" paint. You spray a black basecoat, then a clear, then the Chrome like material and a final coat of clear.  Some people have difficulties with it, say its more like a silver.  If it turns out looking like polished aluminum that would be fine.  I got the stuff so I might as well try it.  As some of it has hardener in it everything has to be painted together.  So when all the parts are prepped I will build a small paint booth out of scrap pvc/wood lined with plastic paint tarps.  I plan to install two box fans, one blowing in and the other blowing out.  Ill mount both with inexpensive furnace filters.  Its the best way I can think of short of sending them out for someone else to do which I may end up doing anyway.  Hey nothing ventured nothing gained.  I'll just see how it go's.

I've seen that come out with good results.  The "chrome" stage is supposed to be tricky.  You may end up shooting the black base and clear and have a pro shoot the chrome.

I'm trying to find out if there's a way to make a piece of chrome resemble brushed aluminum.

To turn chrome to a "brushed aluminum" finish, you have to scuff the surface pretty hard to remove the outer layer. Chrome is an electro-plating process, and the finish, if done properly, is thin. If you have a production part thats been chromed, it will have a thick, hard, durable surface. Good luck turning that around...

Any way you go, its a major crap shoot. You could start with Red ScotchBrite, then go to Green, then to Grey, and finally some 1500 grit. May work-

As for painting chrome finishes, the chroming layer has to be very lightly applied for best results. It is a very transparent paint and in order to achieve the brilliance and reflectivity, it must be over a gloss base color, not flat, and be sprayed pretty carefully with a minimal amount of coats. Or so I am told by the "pros" that I've spoken with.

Considering a Chrome Metal paint myself for a tank (in case I can't afford or find a custom aluminum) and have spoken with 3 different custom painters.

It looked like a good idea at the time, if it don't cut the mustard, I mean it doesn't have to be perfect but has to be decent to look at. I used to model and restore old Trunks from over 100 years ago.  Many of the trunks had a chrome like feature on some of the hardware and skin, may have been zinc and what ever it was would just ablate away over the years.  I had good results on a small scale with Alclad II.  It was a similar process sprayed over black.

Go for it, I don't know how they could build them better.  If you have any questions or issue's with sizing write to Ashley Fell, its a guy, very helpful at info@gasolinaboots.com tell him I sent you! When you get them wear them around the house for awhile, if the fits not right he will make it right!

PS if you really ride your bike, like I think you do, weather, urban oil roads etc. get the lugged sole. Their very flexable but will wear better and you would be less likely to slip.

Fixed the Gasolina Boots link

Thanks, Greg.  Will do.

Almost have sorted out the Oil Cooler system and received some parts,  The two adapters for the oil cooler M14 x 1.5 x -6AN were too small so have re ordered M16's, sizing some of this stuff is work for magicians.  Couple of pics to catch up.

Don did you ever figure out why your AN lines were leaking?  Any one know if these AN and npt connections need to be sealed, locktite, plumbing tape?
