I am also interested for my '78 550.

Can we donate to the R&D of this? This is something I am very interested in and think a lot of people would benefit from.

If this actually happens it would blow my mind!

In the 'short term' I can at least help you piece together the parts. With Obamacare now tripling my health insurance premiums to $1675/mo., it's gonna be a while before I can find $$ to package any kits myself.

So, here's the parts list. You can buy most of it yourself, and I can make the 2-ohm Resistor packs and the Transistor Ignitions to finish it up:

1. Dyna (or Accel) 3-ohm coils. You can use either the "standard" version or their new 'mini' coils, both will work.
2. Either: 5k ohm sparkplug caps with resistor plugs (XR22ES-U from ND are best, or DR7EA, if you can find them),
OR
use 10k ohm resistor caps from NGK and use the X22ES-U sparkplugs (non-resistor type).
If you plan on going touring, use the next step cooler plugs, which are the XR24ES-U or DR8ES-L.
Set the plug gap at .035"-.042".
3. Use my 2 ohm Resistor Pack (I'll start making a batch of them).
4. Optional, but strongly recommended: use my Transistor Ignition. This will keep the points from arcing to death with the Dyna coils. DON'T use the Dyna S ignition, as it will increase current loads beyond what your Mid-Four can muster.
5. Get an H4 headlight and bulb in the 40/45w type, or 35/35w type if you don't do lots of night riding.
6. Get a #1034 taillight bulb and replace your present #1157, unless yours is a genuine Stanley #1175 bulb - if that case, it is fine. Almost all the other #1157 bulbs out there today use much more current than they are supposed to, being an unchecked Product du Chine.
7: I'd recommend a repaired, replaced, or upgraded fuseholder, like the ATC Blade style units I make, or if you're staying stock-ish, one of the new replacement units out there. Reason: if your fuse clips are dark and corroded, the voltage to the whole bike is low. Adding hop-up parts then won't do a lot for it, as the power is weak from hot fuses.
Drop me a PM if you don't already have the Resistor Pack or Transistor Ignition, and I'll try to keep up?  :D

See SOHC4shop.com for info about the gadgets I make for these bikes.
