We have all heard of "The Dragons Tail". What is your favorite twisty spot?

#199 after you cross into northern California, especially at the western end as you get to the coast. So twisty in places it almost makes me motion sick....yes, on a bike.

East portal road up to the viewpoint at Mount St.Helens in Washington.

Old Merritt Highway (5a) between Kamloops and Merritt, here in BC.

Any number of roads in the Kootenay region (south eastern corner) of the province.

I'm not sure this will mean much to most of you, but the A339 from Basingstoke to Alton and then the A32 to Portsmouth.

The A339 is a biking mecca in SE England. 13 miles of near-perfect surface. No villages and not too many side turnings.  You don't hace to go real fast 9although some do) as 65-70 is just perfect.

The A32 is similar but has rather too many 30 limits for my liking.

It akes a great evening run as you can stop at the Alton Station Cafe and chat to the other 3-400 bikers who gather there on a Wednesday evening.

Well in Oz, "The Great Ocean Road" is known as the best motorcycle road in the country, but for me, I prefer the Stuart Highway in the Northern Territory, it's over 1000 miles of pretty straight road and it'd be boring if it wasn't for the fact that there's NO SPEED LIMIT! When I put my 1166cc "K1 Kruiser" engine together I might take it for a ride to Darwin, to break it in, then "open the taps" on the way home. Hopefully it'll last the round trip, ha ha! Cheers, Terry.  ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

I like a bit of both styles of road being nice and twisty plus a few nice long straight stretches.

Nice and twisty, and not too fast either - Galston Gorge in Sydney NSW ORSTRALIA mate
and
Nyngan to Bourke in western NSW - 128 miles of gun barrel highway - three small townships in between, you have to slow down as there are "S" bends entering and leaving all three townships, apart from that - watch out for the

kangaroos, emus, sheep, cattle, pigs, goats, rabbits, foxes, the odd snake but great riding in daylight only - never at night, early morning or dusk. :)

Any target fixation on that one and your dead meat.  :o

Just when you think the turns will ease off they get more intense.

Highway 193 going from Placerville Ca to Garden Valley Ca, lots of twists with some being almost switchbacks. As an added bonus you go across the American River at Chile Bar. Also highway 49 going from Coloma Ca to Auburn Ca is a great twisty ride with some straits and again a great view of the American River as you go acrossed again. Two of my favorites. I live in Michigan now and have yet to find any good riding spots. If any one know of some nice rides in Michigan please feel free to pass them on to me.

I finally got to do my "Knob Run" on Saturday. Starts by ascending a steep hill, into Floyds Knobs, IN, with 4 switch-backs, then fairly straight IN62 for about 5 miles, IN11 for 12 miles of curves and hills (including the "G" hills - negative G at the top, positive at the bottom), then a long downhill back to the Ohio River, past the Caesar's Casino and back. Roughly 43 miles. ;D :D :o :-[ :) :D ;D ;D ;D 8)

Just too many around here to choose from, really. However, there is one turn at the end of 251 riding toward Asheville along the river (very curvy, under a canopy of trees) that makes a sharp right. It dips to the right also, so it's almost banked. When you take it correctly it's almost like leaving a sling-shot.

Really, with the thick foliage and often hill or cliff sides, you really need to know the road and hope a dog isn't asleep in the middle of the apex.  It's easy to have wild turkey, dogs, and turtles in the road in the mountains.  The best visibility is after the leaves are down.
Dude- your 8 layers are showing!

Yeah, that was my ride as interpreted by smileys! The shocked one was where I hit the 1" rock in the apex of a turn. Followed by the embarrassment of gathering myself and almost going through a fence.

as a north carolina native, the mountains/deals gap/etc are a given...

a little closer to me, though, is some nearly equally cool stuff... like NC89 towards mt. airy, or NC66 past sauratown mtn., or NC8 through danbury, nc and stuart, va... usually jump on the blue ridge parkway in stuart, as well... silly 45 mph limit on BRP! i could run from the rangers (if necessary ) on the crotch-rocket... at least the CB650 is still FUN at 45 mph...

Hey CBer,
I run route 8 all the time, with a log truck, fiat spider, bmw 325,  :)
we live on it :) When you hit the parkway I'm just a few more miles west.

We have the same here as Uncle Ernie mentions, no straight roads.
The good thing about route 8 coming up to the parkway from Stuart is,
on the last 3 miles of real twisties there should be no entering traffic. There is only one house stuck on
the side of the mountain and I never see anyone pulling out there.

Down through Danbury is great too.

Maybe we'll meet up sometime.

for those in australia, leave albury, head to Beachworth, good 30km of faster twisties, leave the back way to to Bright from Beachworth, but be carefull of the first left at the cutting, its a closeing radius ,down hill that bloody sneaks up on you!!!!!, then about 10km look for the Happy Valley (murrey creek) turn off, its a left turn, follow that and you will go over the mountains to Mount Beauty, this is a loverly slow or fast set of twisties, slow look at the scenary, fast and scrap everything you got!!!!, way cool.

Get to Mount beauty, and head for Falls Creek, this is a great road, tight, and very twisty, up hill, get to the top, have a coffee, and a look round. head back down to Mount beauty, the go over Towonga Gape, and head to Bright, this is a very tight set of twisties, and alot of fun, once at Mount Beauty, you can either head home back to albury, or you can head up Mount Buffly, this is alot of fun, buthard work at the same time, well worth it, again get to the top, then turn around and head back dow again... then head home.... should be about 400km.... and you should be stuffed....peace

Good one Ben, I rode from Melbourne to Albury a few years ago on the Hume (boring) but then cut across to Bairnsdale (where my folks live) via the old Omeo Highway, scariest ride of my life I reckon, a zillion miles of tight 20 Mph corners with marbles on every apex, logging trucks on either side of the road, and Kamekaze four-wheel-drive wankers going flat stick, by the time I got to Omeo I felt like I'd ridden around the world! Good roads there though, but if you #$%* up, you're just a red smear................. ;D
