No problemo'! Huh, well someone had done the lower painted part of the gauges this way and it came out really good. I'll be doing mine like this so keep an eye out. It looks pretty cool.

Hey two more questions:

How fine did you go with the abrasives before you switched to the Scotchbrite?

And do you need/want any starter rebuild parts? I have the oring on the splined shaft, brushes and the seal at the spline/shaft end in surplus if you're going to freshen that up. Yours if you want them.

I just sanded until the 320 went flat on me and it started to actually polish it. Then I switched to the different pads to get the finish. you'll understand it when it happens. haha, I did try some 600 but it wasn't doing much. Try and sand it in a circular motion. It's kind of a #$%* but .... it comes out good.

I'll take a pass on the starter parts. Thanks anyway it's appreciated. Mines all together and it works so I'm not messing with it.

I have my hoops out for powder and my spoke should be here mid next week so I should have some wheels made!!WOOT

Cool, thanks. I think I may install my bearings, put it on the truing stand and give the parts a spin for the last little bit with the Scotchbrite.

Picked up my hoops from Seattle Powder Coating. This is a first for me for powder coating anything and I think they came out good especially for $87.50. My latest shipment from DSS came in too with my spokes so I figured I'd lace them up!

Laided everything out and sorted my stuff


find the first hole and then skip three. outside spokes first.


Flip and do it again


now for the inside ones.


Flip and do it again. done


on to the rear




Flip and go the other direction.


and on to the inside ones.


and the last side and done. My dial indicator is at work so the trueing part will have to wait for now.

Love the black wheels.  A very nice contrast to the chrome fenders.  Nicely done.  This bike is really coming along.

Thank You Sir's!!. I suppose it's time for the harness cleaning. Have any of you used vinegar mixed with a little bit of salt to clean your connector? I've done a little Googling and figured I'd try it. Heres a actual picture from a camera and not my iphone.

Dude, it looks fantastic! Black wheels look sinister and cool.

Have not heard of any magic for cleaning wiring harness connectors, although there was a guy on the 1100F board that dunked his wiring harness in his ultrasonic cleaner lock stock and barrel and they looked new when they emerged.

I tried soaking the connectors in straight lemon juice, no great effect. Definitely interested in what you learn.

Thanks Nils. The vinegar and salt works awesome. Here are some before and afters.  Basically get yourself some run of the mill white vinegar and add some salt. Soak and scrub the connections with a old tooth brush. Rinse all of the connections with water and then dunk them in another solution of water and baking soda to neutralize the acid in the vinegar. I've been doing another final rinse with a shot of brake clean or electrical connection cleaner.

















I let it all soak for about a half hour or half of one beer.

It'll have to work for now I cut my worn out chain to fit it up. 2.23 is the 38/17 ratio, 2.0 is the 34/17 combo so it's a bit tall but it'll work. My old rings were sooooo worn out. Thanks again for the donation.

update time, I'm going to go back a bit and put the pictures of my gauges in here. Maybe this will help out another some day. So I used the paint can opener technique. Going round and round and round prying it up until I could separate the halves. My problem came up while trying to get the reset knob off which I never did! Instead I took the trip meter apart in the housing while holding it all. When I did this the speedo needle return spring got bent by fishing the mess all apart.

So after some fiddling about and posting the questions I got the balls enough to stick a small screwdriver in there and bend it round again - and it worked to my relief.


So I mated the halves and re-crimped the chrome ring. whoooo.

It's a bad pic but I did get all the connections cleaned and re-taped the complete harness.
 

Got my Dyna coils mounted
 



and my new  ::) harness installed


Then onto the front brake set up. After breaking my bleeder and finding out it needed a new piston I splurged for a completely new one - cheating I know but oh well. Painted the mounting arm and installed.
 

Fixed some more bad threads and rebuilt the master.




cleaned, painted, and rebuilt  :D


This is the order for the rebuild kit as the kit had no instructions.




Used my wifes BIGSEXYHAIR to fit my new squishy grips on  ;D

They're actually a bigger dia. but the mounting bars are off set.  It's really close but they do fit.

This is likely too late to help, but that reset knob may have a reverse thread if there's no set screw. That's how it is on the twin-shock CBX anyway. Prolink has a set screw.
