Still looking at other bikes.
« on: November 30, 2013, 03:48:20 AM »
Most every day I'm up early even on weekends. Its Saturday and it's 5am and I've already been up several hours looking on ebay, and CL, mostly CL for bikes in my area or that are in average driving distance, say a couple 100 miles away. I've got 4 bikes in my garage now, so do I need another, not only no I don't, but HELL no I don't. I've got a Goldwing I brought home in April and I still need to do stuff to it to get it on the road, but I find myself surfing the net more looking for other bikes then working on what I got.

Any opinions on any of these. Good or bad ;) Dog I know the Suzuki GS1100E is a favorite of yours 8)

Here are some examples of the bikes I keep looking at. None are sohc4 bikes so I posted it here:
Honda CB900F
Honda CB1100F
Honda CBX1000

And yes even a couple of Suzuki's
GS1100e
GS1150e

I'd love to see any of those bikes in your garage... or even my garage.

I've never owned one, but I've heard the GS1150E can be problematic... you might want to do your research on that one.

I like your title "Still looking at other bikes", my question is: do you ever stop looking at other bikes?

You might want to check this site out: Lots of good information.

Can one ever have enough?  I had mostly Hondas and Suzukis and they have mostly been sport bikes.  I am always looking myself, wanting parts and bikes.  Keeps me out of the bars.
No problem to me!!

Bikes are like girls...

I love my 900F  its additional power, wheel length, and suspension make it a joy at speeds where the 750 is breathing hard and spewing oil out of the head onto my legs.  It does use some oil when pressed hard but no drips.

If I can get the 67 450 done I am going to look for a 70's GL.

That's the 900f you found under a guys porch and bought it (stole it for $300) ;) I need to find a deal like that Mark. So if i could find a decent deal on a 900f in your opinion I couldn't go wrong. My K6 is similar to yours, if I ride it with some zip and up in the rpm range some it will seep a little oil in the h/gasket area and blow back a very small amount of oil (spots)on my legs. But the old paper towel trick works great. It stops all splatter and until it gets much, much worse I want pull the engine to do anything about it. Instead i'll just change paper towels every once in a while. Rolled up very neatly and spray paint silver you have to look hard to even notice it. That works for me just fine :)

the kaburettors are a hard job..but done..they hold for years..the stock generator are also weak...but "care" can hold it alive
trhe rest of the bike are standart komponents from cb 4 valve engine serie
no computers build in...

There were 3 bikes I was crazy about back in the day and I only owned one of them.
I bought a new CB750 K1 when I was 19.  When the Z1 came out I wanted one, but could
never afford it.  And then the CBX came out and again I wanted one, but never had the
funds.  So now that I have finished restoring a K1, I am thinking about finding a Z1 or CBX
to restore.  Problem is that both the CBX and Z1 go for premium prices now.  This motorcycle
hobby of mine is getting expensive!

All hobbies can get expensive, that is the nature and the danger of a hobby.
I find that I feel more comfortable in this skin when immersed in a specific interest such as motorcycles.
Every aspect of a rebuild requires and time attention. Both of which could be wasted on mindless horse$hit like" end of days "television shows or discussion over some high level political crap that non of us has control of..
But with bikes , you have to be focused in building and riding. every decision counts, it is all so consuming. Checking what you did yesterday, what you are doing today , what tomorrow's plan is , how ill it all turn out, and that's just the building part.
When riding you think about what you have done to the bike so far , what you can do to the bike next, weather conditions, road conditions,  how are these cars might try to kill me, and avoidance techniques. The experience encompasses the mind, not a moment wasted on useless bullsh!t.  Always  a rush of excitement at every turn, even when you shut it down, drop the kickstand and flip you leg back over the the seat of the machine, you know something special has just happened.
I don't know if anyone could consider this a hobby really, 98 % of us are obsessed and graduated well beyond hobby many years ago, most of those are known as collectors by what we have, never mind the ones we are scouring the earth for and hadn't gotten yet . It's an amazing thing to find that so many are drawn so deeply into this activity that the word "hobby" just doesn't seem right, and yes, it can get expensive.

A few Honda 500's, a few Honda 550's, a few Honda 650's, '72 cb 450, a couple 500/550/650 hybrids, and 2001 750.

It's a dream to own a jawa, that and a vincent. I already got 2 projects going though and I really dont need anything else to sink my money in to.

I have been using cotton rope, found it still leaked after a few hours of chasing Nikkisixx.

If I keep it below 5000rpm hardly a drop leaks.

I use brake cleaner  and air to clean up the motor a few times a year.

Someone in Huntersville had a great 1100F for sale last year, 3500, gone before I could see it.

Yes, it's a disease and I'm infected too.  But at least I sell one from time to time (to buy more!)

A CBX is a very collectable bike.

Only bad thing is surfing if you should be working on the GL, it'll never get n the road like that.

Ha!  That's how I spent my weekends mornings too - when everybody is still asleep.

And i don't search anymore, I list everything in the category to make sure I don't miss on something I would like to see - like the odd Ural, Jawa or whatnot in my area.

Not only no but hell no! Must not of convinced myself yet, so here I go again ::) I've only saw the bike once and that was over a year ago, but what caught my attention than was the close to showroom condition it was still in, all original, and with very low miles. The owner who is my neighbour has let me know he might put it up for sale. Never   been a favorite of mine, the first year of the dohc 1979 CB750. But the pristine condition of       this 34 year bike has got my undivided attention though. I don't have any current pics right  now but I will in a few days. Since its been over a year and I only saw it one time I can't remember if it's just the 750K model or if it was 10th anniversary edition. Here's a couple of internet pics of the two models and if nothing as changed the bike looks near the condition of these. I know it's not the sohc 750 that changed motorcyling for ever and the bike we all here want, but if still in great shape and if I can get it at a anywhere decent price I don't see how I could walk away from it. So any input, info, opinions, price suggestions of what you might pay, etc would be extremely helpful.

thanks dhall
