Last week i had a problem with my frontwheel , whenever i turned in a bend it started squeaking (made a lot of noise ), and so i decided that it was time for a new tire, this is a Bridgestone BT45

without frontwheel :P

and the new tire ;D

this week I had a problem with the engine, whenever i wanted to speed up fast, the engine did burp burp burp en then getting speed,  meanwhile burping out the exhaust ;D, I thought the ignitionadvancer or a spring from this was broken so i went checking :)

got the ignition out and indeed de ignitionadvancer didn't went smooth, needed a drop of oil

at that moment i tough wait a minute in my other bike which has a engine which needs a lot of service (the blue one, it uses more oil than fuel  ;) ) i installed an electronic ignition, why don't i use that one ;D

it comes with a special advancerpart, here is a part of aluminium with sticked in that two little magnets

and here you can just see one of the magnets, and the pick-up

en this is it, it works great

it runs smoother now,
uses less fuel( i don't know how thats possible, maybe one of you can explane me, i had the same on the other bike, the ignition saves me about 1 km per liter fuel)

this ignition works only with the original coils (5 ohm)

if i ever think of selling the bike i will put in the old ignition  ;D

All this is quite impressive. I worked as a mechanic, restoring old British cars for 2 years, and can guess that all this work was probably a lot harder than the pictures show! In any case, you've done an amazing job John. Congrats.

i was talking somewhere in this thread about a 822 cc Kit, here are a few pictures of it 8), I'm going to use CB900 Bol'dor pistons

(the 836 cc is difficult to get here in Europe)

pistons and rings

each cylinder with it's own piston

(the boring i couldn't do , luckily i know a man who knew how to do it  ;D

special gasket

and just a nice Pict

all this will be used in my cafe-racer project, i open a new thread for it  ;D

wOw. ..  .very very well done .. ..   I think you need to write your own shop/service manual! like, seriously!!!  ;D

I really am amazed at the dedication and skills so many of the sohc4 peeps have here, shown in these forums. I am just a happy lil' sponge here, soaking up all this knowledge and giving me the motivation (and courage? lol) to tackle my own projects.  ::)

JohnK6.....like the others I am totally impressed with what you're doing here.  Your chronicles here are an inspiration for others to follow suit rather than part out that barn bike.  I had to post a High Five for you but I also noticed something that I want to make sure you correct.  On September 4th this year reply #42 you show the parts going back into your front disc brake caliper. I may be mistaken but the picture shows your brake piston in backwards. The solid side goes in first otherwise your fluid may be absorbed into the cavity of the piston and cause spongyy front brake response or possibly brake failure. Wouldn't want to lose you.  If I'm wrong or this has been corrected......great. Keep up the great work.  How do you take all those pictures without getting grease all over the camera?   Cheers,

It is in the rightway, it's a solid brake piston (homemade from an rvs 316-rod), when i had an original one you were right :)

and about the camera :-X it's all greasy only the lens is clean  ;)

RKS
it's an easy job,
butt do it one fork each time !!!! so first the left one and than the right one or first right and than left ;)

get the m6 bleeder(no-27)- bolt in the bottom at the side of the fork out, let the old oil out push the fork in and out (so most of the oil gets out.)
renew the copper ring on the M6 bolt

than take the big bolt(no-22) on the topsite of the fork off (watch out, do first one fork, and when your finished than the other one)if you do both the front will go to your frontwheel (don't know the English words for it and you say :#:&:$% or so ;) )

fill oil in (about 155cc)

get the big bolt in (it's a little difficult with spring, use a socketwrench)

and only when the big bolt is in you can take the big bolt from the other fork out:)

and do the same on the other fork

the job is: in dutch it's easy, in english also, butt when you're dutch and you have to think in english it's getting difficult to translate  :P
