I believe they are flat, but I honestly can't remember. I pulled the pic below from a post made by kaysystems in this thread

. You are correct that they just center themselves The o-rings were introduced to help stop leaking. I guess some people either don't use them, find some sort of alternative o-ring, or use a better gasket than what comes in the Cycle X kit to help prevent leaking.

My knowledge os sealing theory is lacking but you'd want any o ring equal to or slightly less then the gasket, right?
Is Honda mans copper spray technique a measure to help with this as well?
