Tarozzi fork brace material
« on: March 13, 2014, 09:35:20 PM »
Hello everybody i have a easy one this time. I have been looking at a Tarozzi fork brace, based on the photos im seeing they almost look like they are made of a plastic resin or plastic? just curious if they are plastic or aluminum or something else?

I think they are diecast. I am guessing zinc alloy.. But could be wrong..

Frank's right about them being diecast, I'm not sure about the material. They are lightweight so not sure about the Zn content. Definitely not any plastic involved though.

That coating they put on them doesn't help either, gives it a real composite feel.

Cast aluminum, iirc. I ordered two last year, one for the cb and one for the kz. Well worth the money spent.

Edit: from FFTP site.

All Tarozzi fork braces are made of cast aluminum and are finished in a flat black coating for appearance and durability. Multi-language mounting instructions are included with each fork brace.

I have one on my 500. I ran it with no fender for a while until the fork slop started getting to me. I think it was the biggest performance upgrade i made in terms of handling.

And yes the finish is very weird. It is a cast piece of metal coated with lord knows what. Mine has held up well over the past couple years. Would recommend.

thats what i was hoping for. I figured if it was plastic it wouldnt be worth it. Im thinking about using it to firm things up and possibly mount the fender to it.

The coating on them is a ceramic coating done by HPC"s division in Aust.

The coating is what makes you think it may be plastic..

Has anyone come up with fender mount mod so you can run a fender with the Tarozzi brace on a 500/550??

I'm also very interested.

I was handling my fork brace again just today. The coating and finish makes it look and feel cheap. But knowing it's made of aluminum is all that matters I guess.

Might get it powder coated one day, unless I can figure out a quality fender mount for it.

I believe the 75/76 750F fender brace clears the fender. Probably 77/78 K too. I know that wasn't your front end but maybe the later 550's had taller lowers or a 750 fork swap would work for you.

Interesting idea.  I am struggling with this bike, because I want to keep it mostly stock, but I'm fighting the urge to upgrade it.  I don't want to deviate to far from the stock look but swapping front ends.  I guess in my case that means either a fender or a fork brace but not both.

If your looking to keep the brace. I've seen them tapped from the underside and then the fender screwed onto the brace. Looking at the thickness you would need some short screws

I machined the leg tops round then made a set of clamps to bolt up a VF500F fender. You'll need the 77/78 "taller" fork legs. (550 or 750) It doesn't take a big lunky brace to stiffen the forks on a street bike.  I use a Tarozzi brace on my racebike with the same fender if you are interested.

EDIT; I should mention this is for use with an 18" wheel. Originally the fender is mated to a 16" front but doesn't look silly at all with an 18...at least to me.

I actually just installed a Tarozzi yesterday on my '76 750F.  As others have said, it looks like cast aluminum.  And yes, the finish is kind of weird.  Doesn't look bad though, and I'll probably end up painting it anyway.  And there was no problem mounting it above the stock fender.  Fits just fine, w/ plenty of clearance.  Go for it!
