Help Wanted!
Couple of questions to the community:
Has anyone hid their battery on or below the swing arm?
Any problems riding without the front fender?
What is the output (in Watts) capacity of the '82 CB650 alternator? Need to know this one to figure the smallest battery that will start and run the bike (no kick here :( )

Check out Bru-tom's thread for where/how he placed his battery at the swing arm. I use a Shorai 14A2 battery. It's Lithium, weighs 0.6# and has 210CCA and 14Ah. Been extremely pleased with it.

The only issue running without a front fender is dirt and debris on you, your headlight, and engine/exhausts.

Some quality work he does! Thank you for the lead. Problem solved, just need to make the battery box and attach it to the bike.

Does anyone have a spare rear rubber mount for the tank? Somehow lost mine. It is a CB500 frame f it makes any difference.

The pods showed up (I know, I know). I would much rather have velocity stacks, but my bank account thinks otherwise. Anyway, the #1 and 4 needed to be shortened not to hit the frame. Turned out to be an easy mode. Carbs are now jetted, synced (bench), and ready for the gas.
Wiring is next.

I like the look of velocity stacks and they offer better performance than pods, but the trade-off is exposure to everything and keeping them covered during non-use.

Thought I'd add that I used this calculator (http://carbjetkits.com/CJKCalculatorV3.php?num=4&d1=118&d1p=35&maintype=393&pilottype=26&bname=Honda%20CB650SC%201982Honda%20CB650SC%201982. ) to determine the jets size I need for my build. If it works, it certainly takes all of the guessing out of the equation. The price seemed to be right too.

I'm curious if modifying 2 of 4 pod filters will effect he tuning of those carbs? If you struggle, you might need to modify all pods equally. They do make that unit in a shorter version, if you have problems...

I was thinking the same exact thing, Claj737. I guess the answer is forthcoming. Hopefully, the difference will be negligible to matter.
The damn carbs are also too close together 1,2 and 3,4. The pods need to be staggered on them so they could clear each other.
Sometimes I wonder if it would have been a lot cheaper to just buy a modern day naked bike with all of the modern goodies and forget this constant battle. But then again, I seemingly enjoy the process as much as riding...

Dresda warning. I was so inspired by Fun Jimmy's build that I also got me a Dresda swing arm. Unfortunately, the thing is actually narrower than the stock one and would not agree with my 3.5" rear rim and a CB750F rear hub. :( Lesson learned, I suppose.

Just came upon this build and it's looking great. A big surprised that the Dresda didn't fit.
I guess it's to do with the extra width required to accommodate the disc. Shouldn't have any problem selling it though.

Thanks for the prase, FunJimmy. Your build was what got me interested in the whole game once again.
I don't know if it was a replica or not; all the signs of the original were there, but no markings. It was the same width at the hub as the 500 one, but it was narrower at the rim area.

The rear shocks also showed up today. I went with the EBay knock offs from China. Read a little about them and saw several different opinions, but no one complained too much of those who actually rode them. They do look pretty nice, not as nice as the real deal from Japan or Europe would, but still nice especially considering the price (makes my bank account happy).

Interesting article. You may want to just buy IKONS and save yourself the trouble/cost of a rebuild and have rebuild able shocks that work well right out of the box without a rebuild beforehand.

I used to have a far more detailed link about these cheap shocks but the link seems to have died, the guy that did the write up had the lower clevis fail, a member here had the clevis fail as well, he also detailed what it takes to make them work properly and made new clevis out of stainless, it cost more than it was worth to make them safe and reliable, you get what you pay for, expecting $100 dollar shocks to work as good as reputable shocks is a little unrealistic...

I'm not always a big fan of cafe or matte black, but your bike just looks killer. The best of all worlds rolled up into a neat little package. Nice job.

She fired right up and kept running without a hiccup. Cannot wait to get the plates and try her out on the road. The difference in braking power on the driveway is astonishing. I mean the front, of course, the rear is more for show since it just locks right away.

Sounds really good. No too loud it seems, despite the fact that I opened the can and gutted 70% of the insides. Have to try on the road to know for sure. I cannot figure out how to attach videos here.
