1976 CB750F Super Sport
« on: April 23, 2014, 12:58:53 pm »
Last fall, for reasons unknown, I posted my 76 CB750K on eBay to see what interest there was in it.  I was given an offer for more than I thought it was worth considering I had only paid $1000 for it.  Lets not talk about what I put into it.

So anyway I was offered a fair sum and I agreed to sell it.  Some guy came all the way from Canada to pick it up.  That is wanting a bike!!  Since then I have been looking for a replacement for it.  That is when I found out that you can no longer buy one for $1000.  Even junk is fetching more than a grand now.

All that changed last week.  I found a nice honest 76 super sport that is in good running condition.  Its not perfect but it is nice and the price of $2k seems good to me.  So next week I will be off to Maine to pick it up.

i bought a 1972 cb750 that needs a little work and its awesome and perfect again for $300....

beside some title issues and the fact it could be potentially stolen since all the locks have been punched out but the guy who sold it to me seemed to be a stand up productive member of society with 2 other 750's

best advice i will give you..... go to you itunes store or google play store and download the craiglist app. then set your search criterias, save and set the refresh to every 10min

then you get alerts for sweet deals and you pounce on it like a tiger!

The only CB750's that can be bought, around here, for $300 are good for boat anchors only.  Anything that cheap would go to a junk yard and be parted out instantly.  If you want to spend less than a grand on a 750 it will need to be a 79 or later.  The early 80s 750s are still out there for cheap but they too are getting harder and harder to find.

Whenever I can find anything that runs for under $500, I buy it.  That netted me 12 bikes last year and not a single bike over this winter.

I'm a F'er so I'm partial to them. Depends on what style you like. The F will DEFINITELY run better.

I'm an F'in F'er too!

There's something about the early K tank that I have a soft spot for, but the F is just a better model, IMO.

The F is a better handling bike.  Revised frame geometry with .75 inch more trail. 4.5 vs 3.7 for the K and  28 degree rake vs 27 for the K.  Better brakes with the addition of the rear disc.  A little more HP form the engine...they used the same engine for the 77/8 K bikes as well.  The gear ratios in 4th and 5th are higher so the F will rev about 500rpm more at 65mph.  Not a big deal around town but if you want to ride distances a sprocket change might be something to consider.

What are the correct wheels for a 76 super sport?

Second question, single or dual discs?

Correct wheels with be 19 front, 18 rear, spokes. Should be chromed steel, same rims as other early 750's I'm pretty sure.

Single disc is factory.  I just set up an F1 with godffery's phenolic piston, thinned rotors (front and rear), anti squeak pad, and new EBC v pads.  I could watch the forks twist when I laid into the brake. (Stock fender/brace).  Sticky enough for me.

So, if you spend the right money, I don't think you need the duals.  But they look cool.

That's a beautiful Bike Magilla !!! I just bought my first cb last year in August 1978 CB750K and I love it. I re-built pretty much the whole bike and actually just rode it for the first time this past weekend. After that ride I can never see myself getting rid of it. I think I have the bug and will probably be looking for another soon. I had a tough time finding one up here, I'm in CT but I had to go to NY to get mine. There were NONE around here. That is an awesome bike man, congratulations.  Maybe I see you on the road sometime!!!

I'm thinking I would like an F model next too. If you don't mind me asking where abouts did you have to go in CT ? I live outside Hartford and when I was searching before I bought mine now, I couldn't find anything around this area!!! You got lucky, Congratulations.

Cool, thanks. It seems like these bikes are the type where the first person to go and look at one usually ends up taking it home. That is a really cool bike. I'm hoping to be able to get an F model for the next one. Good luck with the new bike, Take it easy.
